I've noticed a certain persistent malaise in Capricorn ascendants, which may also be true of Cancerian ascendants. Can you define it?

Do you think the fact that your ascendant sign energy (Cancer/Capricorn) squares the sign energy of the house it's in (1st house is ruled by Aries) contributes to any discomfort?

I have Capricorn rising.
Yes, its a fact! We have it slightly harder. Its the rulership of the chart by Saturn that does it. It brings out all the karma of the other planets. Its worse when youre young because then its hard to accept the harder line this planet brings. Especially so if Saturn has hard aspects in your chart. Then its really imposing and restrictive and tends to indicate denial and failure as a lesson in discipline and greater self control.
Its a blessing in two ways: you are probably not going to age much at all, in fact as you wisen, you will grow more youthful in outlook and appearance, with your experience to guide you as a bonus. This is Saturns influence over time - it matures very nicely.
Second, whatever you build with this life will last through the ages after your death, for good or ill, in a pretty permanent way. In other words, you can achieve many things of lasting value.

As for Cancer rising, their sensitivity and need to care for others, coupled with the rulership of Saturn over their partnerships and relationships, creates a deeper depression when they are single or split up. But as time passes, the chance of forming a lasting, caring bond increases.

As a Cap Asc, yes. And I attribute most of it to the fact that my Ruler saturn, is placed in the 12th.

I always feel awkward in public situations, I'm not outgoing by nature, and so on.

My girlfriend is a Capricorn Ascendant. Her Saturn in Pisces in the 2nd is opposite her Uranus&Pluto conjunction, and both ends of this opposition make a [t-]square to her Sun.

My ex has a Capricorn moon and Capricorn Asc. He is shy and reserved in social situations until he gets to know people.

I think Capricorn Ascendant has it hardest. Cancer comes across as shy but warm hearted.. Capricorn comes across as cold and disinterested, so people get the wrong idea. That being said, they are both feminine signs and I definitely think girls do miles better with feminine Ascendants.

I have a cap asc and I believe persistence pays off with us!

Granted we may have it tough but eventually something comes our way! usually at the last minute, to save us..

sometimes I feel like a boxer beaten into the corner and I just throw one more wild crazy punch before I am down...a punch with all the determination in the world..and from there..we shall see...don't f'in count me out yet.

But that is just an analogy I have, I am not that violent!!

that or I am just drunk...

I think people might assume a serious/sober attitude to be a depressed personality, but I have Cap moon and Cap AC and I feel very emotionally balanced most of the time. I rarely feel depressed. As a busy single mom with her share of difficulties, I feel tired and burdened at times, but I don't feel unhappy overall or even 10% of the time.
I get frustrated at times and feel like an old grandpa swearing at things I am fixing around the house. I feel the effects of the moon.
I just go with the flow. I am mostly an introvert and I like quiet and privacy. Listening to neighbors' lawn mowers and leaf blowers and saws and hammers really annoys me. And don't get me started on those teenagers across the street spinning their truck tires in the winter *shakes grandpa fist* hehe
Honestly, I would be happier in an old run down shack in the country than in a palace in the city. That might make me seem like a hermit to some, and grumpy to others. I guess I am a little grumpy about my privacy, and if I feel like spending the day in my p.j.'s because I am exausted from never having a "day off", then I resent someone appearing at my door.

Well, I'm glad you asked this because I'm beginning to see how I might appear to others. I have no problems telling fiery friends who are bouncing up and down outside my front door that I "don't feel well" when I need a mental health day and don't want to waste any time having someone try to jolly me out of it. I like to think and write and listen to music, and watch movies and garden and spend time with my daughter, and I have general work and school and family event invitations. I feel emotional at times, and when I was in my early twenties and younger I felt more depressed. Aging backwards and all that. I feel good most of the time now.
So, malaise, no.
Your girl is probably in the young cappie mode.
Come to think of it...
I think I spent my whole life waiting for something bad to happen. Felt like it was coming all of the time. Since my battle to protect my daughter is basically over and I had that illness that could have killed me.... I feel pretty great about life! hehe Maybe I sense now that I've paid my dues.

No, my girl is in the middle-aged Cappie mode. She's older than me. Was born in 1965. It's probably the t-squares.

I'm still interested in this idea of feminine signs on the ascendant, and what possible effect it might have.

my bf is Cap asc, and he usually is pretty chilled, but not really the most social of people. i'm on the cusp on Ari/Tau asc, so i kinda egg him on to tag along to places, but never force him.

I have a Capricorn rising and a Capricorn Moon in the 12H. Saturn is natally retro, early Scorpio, in the 10H, involved in a T-square (or, actually Grand Cross) with the Asc/DC and Mars and Mercury in late Aries. It conjuncts Pluto (not a happy aspect, this Saturn-Pluto action; I know you said your girlfriend has the opposition).
I am not a bundle of joy, to say the least. I find it hard to enjoy life sometimes, I am too self-conscious for my own good, too pessimistic, I worry too much and I am very shy (though I am an Aries Sun). Though it is not easy, I've learned to appreciate my rising. I have the utmost respect for Capricorn influenced people. These are the responsible, hard-working individuals that can carry a heavy load without complaining. These are the surviviors. It is a blessing to have such a person near when times are tough, because they will stay by your side no matter what and they will get you out of trouble AND smelling like fresh roses. But it isn't easy to deal with this type of people on a personal basis. Capricorn influenced individuals are emotionally challenged and this is a huge problem in a love affair. We are control freaks, cold and, at times, insensitive. It is very hard to open up in front of somebody... this takes a lot of trust and a Cappy rising is very suspicious - he/she will put you to the test constantly. Another thing is the self-sufficiency. We don't like to depend on others (especially emotionally), because then we become vulnerable (God forbid!!) and when we are vulnerable, we get disappointed and hurt... Why on Earth should one go down that path?! We're better off alone! Not... because we long for somebody to prove us wrong, to take care of us (Cancer DC... nurture us!) and to love us unconditionally. But few men are actually strong enough for this challenge, so we kinda give up on that thought, hence the malaise.
The best advice I could give you when dealing with such a person is to have patience. LOTS! And be understanding. And nurture her (she probably lacked that when growing up, she had to be a mature child, to be responsible and take care of stuff). Be determined, like she is. Don't walk away when the going gets tough - she'll probably put you through hell just to see how much you actually want the relationship, in the early-mid stages. And try to understand that, from time to time, she might need some time alone.
Don't take everything she says to heart - it is more likely that you triggered some painful memory in her and she might get cold on you for a while. Try to keep communicating, even though it might not be the easiest thing for her. In time, she'll lighten up - if you win her complete trust. Be persistent, we like that.
Good luck to you! It won't be easy to understand the twisted sides of such a strong personality.

It's ok that you guys keep making this about me, but I was asking more about your experiences.

To my Sag girlfriend with a Cap Ascendant, I'm the "jolly" one in the relationship, and sometimes she gets mad at herself for being a "jerk" (her words). I'm a Capricorn Sun, so I do have a lot of patience. She often feels like she's bringing me down with the way that she feels. I've not even come close to a breaking point yet, though.

Izo, I agree with everything you said. (****Oops, except for the "hard to enjoy life" and "not a bundle of joy" part, I am serious, but mostly happy, might be because of my Libra influences****) Very well written!

My favorite movie with a Capricorn influenced woman is "Something's Gotta Give" with Diane Keaton and Jack Nicholson.

Candles?

Romantic.

- I'm sorry, I...
- For what?

- I just kissed you, and I...
- No, honey.

I kissed you.

I know that one was me.

Try not to keep score.

- Soft lips.
- I'm so glad they still work.

I haven't used them for kissing
in such a long time.

More like for, you know,
wearing lipstick and whistling and...

Well, well. Now look who's
got something that works.

You didn't even take any Viagra...

Kiss me before you make it go away.

This could be world-class interesting.

Having any doubts?

Yes.

Me too.

But so far...

...the kissing is spectacular.

I'm not grading you,
I'm just mentioning it. Like...

Like, brilliant.

I can't get past your damn turtleneck.

Cut it off. Please.

Please!

Cut it off.

Please.

- Aren't you full of surprises?
- Yeah.

Yeah.

Yes.

You're beautiful.

Open your eyes so I know
you hear me.

Beautiful.

Well, I tried to write a reply several times and failed... I guess it wasn't ment to be seen hehe. I was talking about my personal experience ~ ha, nobody lets me complain, not even the Internet LOL... how's that for Cappy rising? Well, it is probably for the best anyway... All will be well, in time... and time is on my side.

MysticMelody,

I sooooo love your nickname!! Where's your Moon, in the 1st or in the 12th? Oh, I loved "Something's gotta give"!! So very nice!

You Cap ascendants should all be somewhat artistic I would think as well, since Libra should be somewhere around your 10th or Midheaven.

Izo, I almost did a Google search on your name because although it seems familiar, I have no idea what it means! Moon in the first for me I will have to read what you said a little later because I got about half way through and now I have to go run and snuggle my daughter some more.

Hey Izo, I hope u get all the love u can get. Lucky for u to be in the med field, or should i say, u got what u earned for ur hard work. What type of job do u have? I don't mean to criticize, but don't they usually say that sciency ppl don't look at astrology b/c it's "nonsense"? What got u into astro?

Btw, did u get ur name from Othello's love, desdemona? Just curious...

ohh my god izo, this is so so me.......

gosh....i do put ppl thru tests....not consciously....but its like i hold my breath and wait for the person to show up when he is needed the most.......its gotten a little better now....but i still do tend to have very low expectations from others because i dont want to be disappointed....so when someone does something really nice to me i am so taken aback i can hardly react....but they win me forever. i never forget it.

also about the part where u dont want to be special....isn't tht so true....it is easier to be accepted when u r common...but then i found out tht i cant accept myself if i am not giving my best.....but i still do shy away from 'expectations' (mostly from my teachers, not my parents as such ) and attention. i want to be treated like a normal person, i want ppl to know me for who i am rather than what i have achieved.

and isn't this in direct contradiction to what we have been told about capricorn?

and mars, its not true that 'sciency' types r not into astrology....uranus rules both science and astrology.

AG,

Maybe - look at my signature LOL. Well, in the Placidus system I have Scorpio at the MC, with Psyche making a nice conjunction to it and Chiron to the FC and this makes perfect sense for my plans of becoming a pediatric psychiatrist (Chiron in the 5th). My career choices have all been pretty plutonian, but then again, in the equal house system I have Saturn and Pluto in the 10H ~ lots of hard work and no shallowness, but also NO FUN!
The Libra MC in my case is what makes me diplomatic in my interaction with the world. I can basically turn things in my favour at any time and resolve things through compromise. And I am happy to say that although I am an Aries, I've made friends out of some enemies ~ or probably this is the Scorpio over 11th house effect hehe. Going down that path: Aries on FC makes for an agitated family life... unfortunately. But it has gotten better with time.

MysticMelody,

"Izodesmozina" is an aminoacid that is specific for elastin, but it's the Romanian name for it . "Isodesmosine" is what I should have called myself, but my ethnicity is also part of my personality. I guess it stands for being flexible and for my uniqueness as a person (because it is not one of the 20 most common aminoacids). How's that for contradicting oneself hehe? Will explain later .
Have plenty of quality times with your daughter! I can't wait to become a Mom (and a wife first...), I love children and I think I'll so spoil my kids LOL!

Mars,
Hi there! How are you? I don't yet have a job, I'm still a student and I have one more year to go... 18 years of education for me... And another 5 to follow, but then I will only study what I want to do and I hope that will be psychiatry (pediatric even).
I think of astrology as a science ("logos" does stand for science hehe). I have many reasons for liking it and along with psychiatry it is my truest passion - I could stay up nights calculating stuff and not get tired at all hehe. I've got Uranus parallel my Asc and Urania (astrology muse) conjunct my North Node.

ILWL,
