HiI dont really know any good source on the net, but as far as i know, solar return chart must be compared to the natal, yes, a bit like in the case of synastries. For what you need to look mainly:
-in what solar house is the sun falls - this would be a highlighted area this year
-in what solar and natal house does the solar Moon falls - this shows where you can expect changes
-where the solar Asc falls also shows where your main focus would be this year - and if the solar ASC conjunct any planet in the natal it gives to the planet some special importance
-then look for the aspects - the most important ones are when you can see "repeated" aspects. for example: if sby has natally Venus square Saturn and in a certain year this aspect will appear like solar Venus square solar Saturn or solar Venus/Saturn square natal Saturn/ Venus - then sth related to this aspect supposed to happen (maybe kind of emotinal struggle)
If a bad aspect will be repeated it may have couse big difficoulties to cope with, if a good aspect will be repeated as a bad one (f.e. Venus trine Saturn will appear as Venus square Saturn, then it will be easier to solve the problem.
And as i heard, DON'T use more than 3-4 degree orb distance when you look for the aspects.
AND always remember, these are just POSSIBILITIES, astrology cant tell the future, just gives the chance for certain things to happen - but its up to you how sth would happen in the reality.
Hope this help a little
