At 1.30am this morning an earthquake with epicentre off the coast of Milford Sound, New Zealand, was felt over here on the other side of NZ (I felt it!). I just ran a chart for the time and location of the epicentre... Mars was opposite Pluto, with Pluto conjunct DC in the 7th house (I'm surprised because I thought it would be conjunct the AC). However most of the aftershocks which have continued throughout today have Pluto on the ascendant, and even when it's not close enough to consider conjunct the AC, it's always in the 12th house. Dark rumblings under the surface...

The stronger aftershocks mostly seem to have Pluto closer to the ascendant. Interesting that Mars has moved away enough not to be within a tight enough orb to be considered opposite Pluto now.

I can post charts if anyone is interested in the astrology of earthquakes... ?

"As above, so below" becomes literal *in the most literal sense possible* when you consider this don't you think?!

Also Neptune was in the 8th house at the time of the initial earthquake.

Ok, I'll get a few ready.

It's so weird, I could swear a lot of the day today I could still feel the most subtle swaying. Like right now I'm sure I can. When I was at a cafe this afternoon I was sure I felt something - but no one else noticed anything, even Mr Gemini, who's very sensitive to his environment. I looked it up later and indeed there was another aftershock happening from the other side of the country at that time...

Some charts coming soon!

Ok here is the first earthquake at 1.30am:

And here's the big aftershock this morning, which I felt while lying on the physiotherapist table on the 5th floor of a tall building... the building itself was moving.

I've just noticed that in the first earthquake, Pluto was opposite the ascendant as well as opposite Mars; and in the big aftershock this morning, Mars was opposite the ascendant. In the big aftershock shown here, the epicentre was located only 5km below the earth's crust, compared to usually about 40km for the other aftershocks. Interesting that with the epicentre so close to the earth's crust, Pluto is also extremely close to the ascendant...

Yes, my excitement gets the best of me sometimes.

GeminiLover75, I find myself interested in exploring the great possibility of predicting future "natural disasters". I've seen several websites that attempt to do this, but only one I lady I've found thus far that can be looked at with any real reliability. I was learning her technique when I accidently lost her website addy, hav'nt found her again since! I have occasionally found remenants of her conversations on this or that astronomy boards... She loves to show them astrology is valid, exciting, and quite compatable with astronomy.

Anyways, thank you so much for reminding me of this adventure. Would'nt it be wonderful to really have that strong of a grasp on astrology. To accuratly be able to predict something as awesome as an earthquake?

Mr Gemini said that he looked into this a few years ago, and that it involves a Mars-Pluto opposition. I know he's mentioned before that accidents etc may happen when Mars is on the ascendant, so I would say Mars or Pluto on the ascendant would indicate earthquakes - with the opposition, as Mr Gemini suggests. It holds true for the earthquake I posted... Mars is in the first house, but I suspect that there may be some kind of adjustment needed in my chart and if so, Mars could indeed be on the ascendant.

I'm wondering if it could also happen when Mars squares Pluto?

The reason I'm so interested is that the site of this recent earthquake is on a major faultline in New Zealand that's overdue for a disaster. Geologists are saying that it could happen at ANY TIME, and the longer we wait the worse it will be. We're talking at least 8 on the richter scale - it's being said that it will shake the whole South Island and be felt as far away as Sydney, Australia, and that it will be a huge disaster with deaths and injuries on the West Coast, infrastructure like roads will be destroyed, etc. So, it's got me wondering if it will happen at the Mars-Pluto square, or will it happen at the conjunction, the next square, or will we be waiting a while yet until Mars opposes Pluto again?

I ran a chart for the Java earthquake a year or so ago... I'll post that one too if you're interested.

The Java earthquake. Note that Pluto is conjunct the ascendant. It's in opposition to Venus, but note also that Mars is in opposition to Neptune.

As for the Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004. This one blows the theory because neither Pluto or Mars is conjunct the ascendant. However, Chiron is. Pluto is opposite the moon and Mars is square Uranus.

I've just noticed that there's usually some conjunction to the IC in these charts. I wonder how relevant this is.

I think this is the girl I was refering too sensuousvenus this has like 8 pages in it of her battling astronomers about the validity of astrology, etc. somewhere she herself, makes her first earthquake predictions for the coming year.

There was also mention of the moon being new or full during each validated event...
Something like that?

Do you know what stage the moon was in for the above earthquakes?

Also something we may want to peek into is Poseidon’s position. Is it maybe on the Descendant? For this I might even look at the country chart for the time of the quake. -I say Poseidon, since the ancient world associated him with earthquakes.
brief reference And it's # is: (4341)

GeminiLOver, darling, your earthquake has a kite and a grand water trine. Fascinating. Wonder what that means. But that seems like a strong formation.

Ah, I didn't know about Poseidon. In some intuitive way I think that's why I was looking at Neptune. I'll check that out...

The Indian Ocean earthquake was at a full moon. As for the others, it was neither full or new.

I noticed that too, BUD... not sure whether that means anything. Could relate to the fact that the epicentre of these quakes is off the coast.

I usually take the co-ordinates of the epicentre of the quake rather than for the city or country, as it seems like the most accurate way to do it... although I think it would show what's happening at the source of the quake more so than it's after-effects on a particular city or country maybe. The results are probably not too different though. I don't know actually, just guessing.
