I am wondering if we could talk a bit about declinations and how they affect both the natal chart and synastry. I am somewhat familiar with them although I never use them in my interpretations so I think this could be a valuable thread for people who only use aspects.

For example, in my chart, the declinations are all North except for Uranus and Neptune (which are also my 2 retro planets) and in terms of synastry I am curious to know how these affect the aspect involved.

Declinations of the same degree and hemisphere are considered parallel, the same as 'conjunct' in regular charts.
Declinations of the same degree but in different hemispheres are considered contra-parallel, which act like 'oppositions'.

For example:
My sun is 3deg pisces declination:10degN
My moon is 23deg leo declination:10degS

So although my sun and moon aren't aspected, by declinations they are in opposition. I have a few others in my chart aswell that made me say 'aha!' so thats what the missing piece in my natal is!

In synastry its the same, magi uses them heaps- its the only thing (except the importance of chiron) about magi I actually like.

Read the parallels and contra-parallels in natal and synastry as conjunctions and oppositions.

Hi Love,

I've heard that the energies between the planets involved is the same, only weaker than the longitudinal aspects.

I've also heard some controversy over whether or not "contraparallel" means the same as an opposition.

The first time I read about them, it said that the declinations are neither positive or negative...so if I have an aspect in synastry, such as Sun CP Venus, it wouldn't be a negative energy.

I don't know because I haven't looked into them thoroughly enough.

Opinions, anyone?

From what I've researched and my own personal experience with my own and other peoples's charts they work the same as I've written above.
Of course thats just been my experience and as I don't know 20,000 people to do a proper test study on it, I'll have to say its just an opinion!

BTW-
I tend to see oppositions as 'opposites attract' except of course with the big nastys. CP is a nice blend of opposites, I feel.
My sun CP moon isn't a bad thing, it merely means that my overall personality is expressed differently to my emotions- it can cause dramas, but as a pisces sun/venus w neptune in the 7th H I kinda enjoy emotional drama.

Thanks for the input, OzMeg. I always find them interesting, but the only interps I've ever seen are the Magi ones. I didn't have a frame of reference to compare them with.
