Have any of you ever approached a relationship w/ you and the partner's synastry or separate charts in mind? Did it help shed light on the relationship or did it cloud your judgement?

Natal charts help. Synastry doesn't help at all for some reason.

Natals help me in understanding the other person's perspective, and they are dead on accurate sometimes. This part of astrology has helped me comprehend a lot of people in my life - not only romantic partners.

Synastry/Composite on the other hand.. is very volatile - some aspects play out, some don't.. People make interesting choices and what looks like a good synastry does not always lead to a good relationship (and vice versa)

I'm still not sold on predictive astrology. Much like synastry, it seems volatile to me.

Regarding a partner's natal chart, not synastry, I'd say it has helped, mostly with avoiding the wrong relationships.

Also, when things don't work out, knowing the other person's chart helps me to not take things personally.

Actually, synastry did help me in my relationship a little bit. I find the interpretations of the more difficult aspects quite helpful. Like for instance with my special someone I have Sun square Mars (I'm the Mars). I've learned to be more patient with him, because synastry made me realize that certain tensions between us were actually my "fault" because I would get impatient with him too quickly. And from studying his natal chart I learned that he doesn't like to be pushed or pressured. So, combined with natal charts I find synastry charts very helpful. The synastry chart helps me understand certain energies between two people and the respective natal charts help me understand how the person would experience certain synastry aspects.

Composite charts, on the other hand, didn't help me at all. I don't find them to be very accurate either.

Reading your SO's natal chart can definitely allow you to understand their quirks and idiosyncracies... the reasoning of why they react a certain way in certain situations. However, it's not foolproof. My boyfriend doesn't always manifest what's in his chart, which is good. I think that's the sign of a person's ability to change since the natal chart outlines a person's potential and basic frame of their personality - not who they actually can be.
