Do you ever feel like your opposite sign takes on an older sister or brother type role in your life, or at least tries to? I'm particularly interested in the first six signs of the zodiac's experiences, and if they have noticed this of their "older" opposites?

In my lifetime ive been close to many Scorpios and I'm not sure if it's because they can have a tendency to be controlling and bossy know-it-alls by nature (at times ) or what...but something i've noticed with all of them is they like to think they know what is best for me and hand out advice, like i'm the kid sister. It's nice of them and most of the time I'm open to it and accept and consider what this oft-wise sign has to say. And i've found this interplay to be quite entertaining too, because i know they usually mean well. They just take their "job" a little too seriously sometimes.

Maybe it's a Taurean / Scorpio axis thing. Both signs have a tendency to be intense, over-protective, difficult, loyal, sensitive, stubborn, and go to extremes. I've just always felt like they like to play "teacher" with me.

I could go on and on with the repetitive themes i've noticed between these two signs in particular. But i dont want to turn it into a Taurean-Scorpio discussion only.

So, I wonder about the other signs of the zodiac and if theyve had similar experiences with their opposites or can relate to this in any way.? Tell us about the dynamic you see with you and your opposite.

My best female friend is a Cancer..I'm a Capricorn..and *she* is the one who definitely takes on big sister role..we often joke that I'm the sister her mother didn't want to adopt LOL..

It might be because she's 27, and I'm 20..but I have a dominant, strong personality..and it definitely backs down when with her. My mom is a Cancer, though..so maybe I'm used to Cancerian women who are older to be the big sister/motherly friend. I have accidently called my friend "mom" before, she replied "Nicole, I'm not THAT motherly to you am I??"

I've only had like 2 or 3 food male Cancer friends..and I always felt like I was their equal..though I tended to let them take the lead a few times, I find the dominant Cancer extremely attractive

No me gusta Virgos...

My Pisces soul has to deal with SO many in my life, immediate family members, and while I tolerate them and they me, I know I absolutely confound them and they bore me, no big brother/sister roles here, as a matter of fact, it is quite often the opposite.

How interesting augentier
!

Yes, i too have always felt like i was the Scorpio's equal...there's always a homey easy comfortableness there..but i can also see/say that sometimes we'd take turns "taking the lead" or allowing the other to dominate the conversation or whatever. If a Scorpio friend was in one of their "moods" i'd step back and be a little nicer, quiter. Not out of fear, but just not wanting to see them get more upset...giving them space to ride it out.

Thanks for your input.

Hey hippichick! That's funny because I was going to ask who out there finds that they dont really get along with their opposite at all.

They say it's a fine line and you usually either love your opposite or ...dislike them very much.

Thanks for sharing.

Pisces... Blech.

I'm a Virgo and I DO NOT get along with Pisces very well. I feel your pain Hippichick... But in the opposite way. lol.

I do have one Pisces guy friend who is really closer to our other Virgo friend. He's a good guy, but we are not on the same level at all. We can be friendly and tolerate each other, but we just don't get each other.

I did have ONE good Pisces female friend in undergrad, but I think the main reason we got along so well was because we both have fire grand trines in the same houses in our charts. However, we ended up being roommates, and that just killed our friendship.

So, while I respect Pisces people, I don't get them and they don't get me, and generally speaking, I like to leave it that way.

I get along with Virgos, fine enough, I have to, my mom, my sis-in-law, my mother-in-law, my nephew, they would just not be the individuals I would choose to be a close part of my personal, inner life.

It has always amazed me about "traditional" synastry teachings on how we should be most compatible with our opposites...

A Virgo sun man would not last one minute in my life, and this I absolutely know!!!

As has already been stated, they do not get me and I do not get them, nor do I want to, really, leave well enough alone.

I have often pitied my Virgo mom for having to raise such a strange little Pisces girl!!!

Having said all of this....I have met only a few Pisces that I like, too!

HA!

Hmmm... nope. If anything, it's the other way around and I feel like the big sister with Pisceans, even with my own mother who is a Pisces.

aug ~ just wanna to say I'd like to sample some "food male Cancer friends" (couldn't help it, feeling silly tonite )

T ~ my son chose to be born an Aries: WHAT was he thinking????
But seriously (maybe ) -- I've never had any good female Arien friends. I enjoy their energy, but we just don't seem to ever click. The fellas are a different story, there was definitely a big-brotherish feel, even when we were romantically involved.....

I've never really known anyone who's been in either a big brother or big sister role for me -- seems like that's always been MY position as firstborn. It would be nice to finally meet up with a mentor -- but I guess the student isn't ready

My two best girlfriends are both leos - and i have many leo friends. They bring out a certain warmth in me and there are usually few power struggles because they like to take control and i just kind of go with it and i think we both prefer it that way. The only thing that sometimes grates on me is being smothered by them a little bit which doesn't happen often. There is just something about them that brings out a fun, playful and crazy side in me!

I think Scorps and Aquas like to challenge people a lot.

Scorpios in particular can have a feeling that if it can be torn down, it ought to be. They have a deep sense that what is true, and truly real, cannot be destroyed, and that all destruction is therefore a good; a peeling away of the layers of falsehood to get at the truth. Aquas have an aversion to convictions, so, if they think someone is too convinced or too comfortable, they will try to poke holes. Scorpios often see things so deeply, or, at least, they are looking on those levels (and it is as easy, if not easier, to form mistaken impressions of subsurface phenomena as it is to form mistaken impressions of surface phenomena) they cant help appearing to respond to us as individuals, in very personal ways - because they enter into our point of view, or seek to. They really get under your skin. They try to put a wrench in the works, not just tweek you on the nose. So, this can seem like they take a personal interest, but really, they are this way with everyone. And then, sometimes people's paths just conflict naturally, so they just happen to come in conflict a lot. This would be true of opposite signs. Also, if you are an especially independent person, who keeps only your own counsel, then, no doubt, you will see any focused attempt to disagree with you as intrusive. Taurus especially can feel intruded upon, as it is a sign with very strong boundaries.

Just some thoughts.

Also, the first 6 signs are psychologically oriented towards the self, and towards self-development, whereas the psychology of the latter 6 signs drives them to project themselves into the world, so, it makes sense that the older signs would seek to exert more influence upon their environments, and upon us/you.

Pisces will and forever hold my highest regard.....they are so cultured, intelligent, religious, and definitely inspirational.....they're just amazing. There is always something new to learn from these fishies.

When I was young, I wished I was a mermaid...I guess that's my pisces rising trying to make me fit the fish persona..lol

Edit: BTw, i'm a virgo

I'm an 8H-Aries-Sun/Virgo-Asc and my son is 8H-Libra-Sun/Pisces-Asc. We share Cancer Moon though. It's so hard to say which of us is "teacher" which is "student". The karmic feel is so strong between us - he's my one and only and neither of us would have it any other way

I really don't know any other Libras; now Pisces...I know lots of them, I love 'em! I know my Venus & Chiron in Pisces has something to do with that. BTW, I have no placements in Libra, other than BML.
