Anyone got any personal or theoretical input on this one?

According to:
http://www.drstandley.com/astrologycharts_grandtrine.shtml#Air

It needs "rear in gear" to get it going, quite likely from elsewhere in the chart.

I've got one in Air signs. "Dissipated" said my husband once in an honest (and insightful) moment.

I liked this one too:

Even though s/he called me out as someone who will leave the donkey work to someone else if they can get away with it.

I've got a Grand Trine in Earth, and I...come down somewhere in the middle of "blessing" and "curse." I just don't know. Finding my motivation, especially WRT the trine, is problematic. I believe what some have said about trines is true—"trines are so easy they're dangerous." I'll also admit that it is damn hard to avoid the kinds of responsibilities and challenges indicated by my trine.

My elder son has two in Air. When he was in the womb I told the obstetrician that the kid was right lazy - why kick when you can just lie there? A very clever boy, but getting him to concentrate and get down to the task in hand can be a struggle - and sometimes I just can't be arsed.

I don't have a Grand Trine, but it seems to be that it would be a curse in the disguise of a blessing. Sure, everything comes easily without much effort, but then you don't have much innate motivation to stretch yourself beyond your comfort something and reach your highest potential.

So for people with a Grand Trine, they need to find external motivation to get them going. Imagine if tomorrow you were to lose everything. What would you do? How would you survive? Just thinking about these questions every now and then can give you the motivation you need to get something done.

Well...

I agree that it's both a blessing and a curse, but not really in the ways mentioned. I have a fire grand trine, but I don't think that motivation is my problem. I can get lazy about certain things, but for the most part I do a lot in my life and I believe in working for what I get.

I think my main problem is staying with one thing long enough to see it all the way through (which is not to say that I don't finish EVERYTHING, because I think a bachelors and a masters in 6 years is pretty decent). Survival is definitely not a problem for me. I don't have much patience with others because I AM so efficient. If anything, I have a problem with waiting for things that I really need to happen and having the faith in others to get it done. Plus, I'm not great at monitoring where I am. Sometimes I'm so on track with what I'm doing I don't notice that I've "overshot my destination." I do have a lot of earth in my chart though, so that helps with patience and getting practical things done. However, I think that dealing with vagueness and showing vulnerability are problems for me (I have little patience with extremely watery types of people). Obviously, thinking things through before I do them is not a big strong point for me either.

But... On the other hand, I do have a lot of motivation and single-mindedness to get things done. I provide enthusiasm and support for many people. I'm creative and inventive. I've done things others would not have the courage to do. I've learned to tap into my sense of inner confidence despite great adversity.

There are pros and cons to all astrological influences. It's all in how you use it.

I have 2 Grand trines, and although Iam thankful for them, they also make me lazy at times. But I have the energy and mental gutso to really dream things that are possible. I also have squares to balance my grand trines. Whatever I dream up, I always know I can achieve it...which is a really rare trait I think?

another thing to is if the grand trines are tight orbed like no more than 2 degrees, then you have 3 midpoint opposition configurations. Midpoint configurations can go either way....the ones involving Saturn and the outerplanets can be difficult.

I have tons of squares too. I can't decide if my squares are there to balance out my grand trine or if my grand trine is there to balance out my squares. lol.

That's interesting about a grand trine needing a jump-start. I don't know if I can attribute my experience to my grand trine, but perhaps it fits.

I have a grand trine with Chiron-->Venus-->Mars/Jupiter. Since I was a kid, I've had some creative hobbies, but I wasn't disciplined with them. I did them just because I enjoyed them, and I resisted pressure from others to be more focused with my talents. I didn't seriously consider making a career out of those interests, and I certainly didn't take any practical steps to make a career out of them.

Then good old transiting Saturn came along and formed an exact square with my natal Chiron. At the time, I was on a completely different career path. One that provided me with clearly marked and easy to follow stepping stones to success; one that I was good at and even liked. But I suddenly realized that what I really loved, what made me feel enthusiastically engaged in life and not just like I was passing the time, was my creative hobbies. It finally clicked for me that settling for anything less than that would be inauthentic and wasteful. So, to the surprise and even discouragement of some, I switched gears and am now happier professionally than I've ever been.

My grand trine is in earth signs, and what's changed in the past few years since the square to Chiron is the emotional high I get from building and developing my talents, instead of taking them for granted. I love seeing the growth that discipline brings and knowing that what I do today is preparing me for what I'll do tomorrow and 10 years from now.

I guess I needed the transiting square to Chiron to take full advantage of my GT, since the planets in my grand trine form only wide squares in my natal. (Mars/Jupiter widely square my Sun; Venus widely squares Pluto.)

It's interesting that you mention that, because I too have had a lot of hobbies that I cultivated over the years as a kid and now into young adulthood that I absolutely love, and it's only recently dawned on me that maybe I should consider doing something involving those hobbies. Especially now with the lovely Saturn retroing over the top of my Venus/MC/Sun conjunction ( ) I haven't been able to find a job and start my career. As a result, I've lately been trying to figure out other things to do, and the thought has crossed my mind... And I might actually be able to pull it off, especially since one of the planets involved in my grand trine is the Moon in Aries in the 5th.

I don't know. I've been considering it, but it just seems like such a waste of the 6 years I was in college. But... On the other hand, I know I would enjoy it, if I can work out the details to get there. It's kind of freeing too, to not be on one set path.

enchantress - I'm sure you'd be able to pull anything off, especially with that fire grand trine you're working.

If you love what you studied in school though and look forward to the career that degree will provide, try not to let the delay discourage you. It can take time after graduation to get started on the career you want. That's the norm. Almost everyone I know went through that, including myself. We either had to wait a few months for a job, or eventually disliked the one that we had right after graduation and left after 1-2 years.

I'd encourage you to move your professional focus to your creative interests if your reason for doing it was b/c you realized that you no longer want the other career. But if it's primarily b/c of the practical obstacles, I say, keep the faith. The job will come.

B/c as we all know, work in creative fields is no sure shot either! I've been putting a lot of time and energy into my interests for the past year and a half, and it's only very recently--past 4 months or so--that I've been consistently getting paying work.

If you like to look for lessons in difficulties (one of my personal hobbies ), Saturn on the Sun & MC can mean many things. Perhaps this time is a chance for you to experience life when not locked into achievement mode. We can get blinders when we're focused too much on the race. If you're a very goal-oriented, driven person, this wait for a job is a forced break from that perspective. And what you are learning now about life and yourself will certainly help you see things with a broader perspective when you return to an achievement-focused environment. Maybe you'll be blessed with understanding what's really essential to your happiness, so you won't get caught up in your work environment defining that for you.

Good luck. And if you can take this time to pursue other interests you have, that's a huge plus and opens the door to other possible opportunities.

Hmm... well I'm a grand water trine with Moon, Mars and Saturn. I don't particularly like being ruled by my emotions so much, I don't always like being able to feel for other people so much because being empathetic can be sad. And yes I do have a lazy streak. I also have a kite, the apex of which which is Mercury in Taurus. BUT I do like being intuitive and I like that it doesn't always take me a lot of effort to do things.

Mr Gemini and I are a grand air trine in composite... the relationship was very easy and airy to start with. And now in progressed composite we're a grand water trine (incl. Scorpio moon), and I like the emotional closeness that it brings.
