Anyone got any personal or theoretical insight into charts low or lacking in elements? My chart is Earth/Air biased. No water planets, but with Scorpio ASC and Pisces IC. So Bob Marks observations on element voids was something I found insightful: http://www.bobmarksastrologer.com/EmptyElement12.1.htm Plus I loved what he said about Hillary Clinton -> Earth void. Checking out my best friend's chart, he doesn't have any water planets either, but likely his rising sign is Virgo (guesstimate time of birth). So Pisces is doing a lot of work. Both of us have Moon conjunct Pluto, in close orb to each other. We have a close bond, but looking back over a friendship of near 20 years, I don't think we have ever discussed anything of emotional import. We just know. IP: Logged |

From what I've seen, elemental imbalances represent areas of major weakness or challenge in a person's life. Since you brought up lack of earth, I've met and examined the charts of several folks with that problem and it's huuuuuge. Folks who lack earth often have a very difficult time feeling grounded or safe. My father (long term alcoholic, chronic anxiety) has no earth in his chart, which for him indicates both a migratory childhood and subsequent sense of alienation from society.I would say that (from what I've seen) no fire=lack of drive, no water= lack of emotions/ emotional flexibility, no air= lack of rationality/intellectuality and no earth= lack of groundedness/lack of sense of self/safety. ------------------ "You stay young as long as you can learn, acquire new habits and suffer contradiction." That's the thing, I have strong feelings they are just stored deep. To most my friend would seem aloof or detached but that's not what I see. He is very loving, it just isn't obvious. However, I've only got 2 fire planets and I think they have a tough time getting up and getting me to go. IP: Logged |

I haven't seen lack of an element to be a problem. Mainly because the native usually notices this lack in themself and tries to compensate for it. Sometimes overcompensating. Like me, I only have one air planet and most would say I am overly intellectual and rational. I know this is not true, as I am highly emotional with most of my personal planets and Ascendant in fire and water. Also, a person may be lacking in an element but will have the ruler(s) of signs in that element rising, in which case it becomes an integral part of their personality. For example, I know a guy with no Earth, but he has Saturn rising and no one can say he is not grounded or down to earth. He is much more hardworking and practical than your average Joe. Anyway, we all have each sign somewhere in our chart, so no one is ever truly lacking in an element. IP: Logged |

I agree with Neptunian Fire -- I have one planet in Earth and one in Fire, the rest are Water (3) and Air (5). There were times when I was younger that I was NOT very "grounded" but today I own a house and have been at the same job for almost 13 years. There were times when I was not very spiritual (Fire) or ambitious, but I'm not a person with huge important objectives. I have my own small goals and do not wish to be President It's possible that we try to counterbalance our perceived "lack" of an element by overcompensating -- but also by seeking out companions who express what we "lack". In my past, I've had long-term partners who were Fire and Earth, but the Fiery guys seemed to overwhelm the Watery parts of my makeup. I think it also makes a difference where the singletons are placed: I have Mars in Virgo, in the Fiery 1st house..... IP: Logged |

Lack of water in a chart is supposed to indicate troubles with bodily waste elimination according to Lyn Birkbeck. IP: Logged |

house placements could count in the elemental counteven though I have no planets in Earth Signs My Sun and Uranus are in 2nd house My Moon and Mars are in 6th house so I have 4 planets in Earth houses. Saturn aspects could make up for lack of Earth. I have numerous Saturn aspects
planets in water houses could count in the water element count Neptune,Moon, and Pluto could too
planets in air houses could count in the air element count Mercury,Uranus aspects could too Planets in fire houses could count in the fire element count Sun,Mars,Jupiter could count too at the least, they are affinities

Hmmm... Well BM, the article you put up does make some sense to me. I have all of one planet in a water sign and one planet in an air sign. However, I have Scorpio on the asc and Pisces on the IC (like you) so that helps make up for my lack of water... However, my lack of air is probably my main problem (and I actually DO hate small talk). Yet, I also have Chiron and my NN in Gemini, so I think that kind of helps make up for my lack of air (because I SOOOO need more mutable signs in my chart ). I personally don't feel that I overcompensate for either my lack of water or air like some people have mentioned here. ------------------ Virgo Sun/Aries Moon/Scorpio Rising IP: Logged |

I have only one planet in water myself. I have two planets in a water house, though. My emotional nature is probably a little unusual, but I don't think I try to overcompensate for it.IP: Logged |

What about this...my air houses (12th-Libra, 8th-Gemini, 4th-Aquarius) have nothing in them except for Pluto in the 12th. But I find that my intellectual interests definitely fall into those 3 houses. The things they represent are the things I dive into head first and spend hours, days, weeks, months studying..------------------ Capricorn sun / Scorpio rising / Sagittarius moon No man is free who is not master of himself. Air houses are the houses ruled by Air signs.3rd House = Gemini Ruled 7th House = Libra Ruled 11th House = Aquarius Ruled So if you have something in those houses, then you have some Air influence. IP: Logged |
