Hello,

I know I already started a topic today, but there has another question coming up.

I think I do understand that the name asteroids of our personal names or nicknames seem to contain traits we identify with.

On a sidenote: It`s funny but the two friends I feel closest to have their name asteroid at approximately the same place in their chart, as mine is placed in mine.

my name: 16°58 Taurus
friend F: 19°50 Taurus
friend A: 14°25 Taurus

Also, that guy has his NN on 15°21 Taurus, which would imply that all of us could cross his lifepath at some point (at least A and me have a rather close conjunction to his NN).
But interestingly only my name asteroid has an exact aspect to his NN, when placed in his chart (a quinkunx with an orb of 0°01).

But that wasn`t what I wanted to ask.
Instead I wondered what meaning the family names could have, when in aspect to planets / asteroids.
Anyone has an idea?

The named asteroids are new to me by about 2 years and it's fascinating how the people close to you including family and friends have asteroid names prominent in our charts.

The day I was born, my asteroid was conjunct my father's Moon. My father named me and my brother the previous year, while my mother was asleep. She had "hippie" names picked out for us because it was the late 60's and she was gonna name me something like "Flower" or "Patchoullie" or something.

Anyway, it really freaked me out when I saw that.

My father did the same thing the year before with my brother. Although I can't remember where his name sits in my father's chart right now, it is also in a very prominent spot on the day he was born.

I am new to the name asteroids, too.

Before I always thought of them as nunsense, like astrologers are gripping for straws. But now I think they are so fascinating.

LIke in my dad`s chart, his name asteroid on 18° Leo and my mum`s name on 16° Aquarius are opposite each other.
And funny enough, my natal Moon is on 17° Aquarius and my brother`s ASC is on 18° Aquarius.

EDIT:

Also, the names are interestingly placed in the charts of the two actors / singers I have been talking about.

In the case with P:
My name is exactly conjunct his Chiron and ASC opposing his Pluto.
(it`s also exactly sextile his Karma and Venus)
There`s a second name asteroid of mine and this one, placed in his chart, is exactly conjunct his Mars and Amor.

ONe of his name asteroids is tightly conjunct my Sun-Moon-midpoint and Antivertex and opposes my Eros.

Synastrically, his name asteroid in his chart is exactly opposite my name in my chart, with other aspects to both sets of Moon and Juno figuring in.

With A it is:
HIs name in my chart is conjunct my Mars, ASC and NN.
Also, very interesting his name in my chart and his name in his chart are exactly conjunct (and he is 8 years older than me).
His second name in my chart is opposite my Venus.

My name is not as powerfully placed in his chart, since it is only conjunct Mercury and quinkunx his NN (but both aspects are exact).
Synastrically my name in my chart is conjunct his NN, and his name in his chart is conjunct my ASC though.

But what is really interesting is P`s chart, because A`s name asteroid and mine are exactly conjunct in P`s chart. It`s like, in regard to P, we radiate a very similiar energy. lol

I know it`s just toying around, but it`s amazing to find such connections.

I think last names would work the same as first names but each person will identify with that name in a different way. My last name isn't on the list but one similar in spelling & sound is there, so I put that in my chart and it's in my first house conjunct my Venus.

What I gather from this is that I identify with my "family name" and give a good impression on my family name.

Hi DD
The name asteroids in my chart and others I have looked at; has led me to a few conclusions.
All three of my *names* have asteroid representation. I will call them first, middle and last. Each seems to resonate to public/private persona's and career/family persona's
  • Last 14+ Cap -Vertex 14+ Cap
  • Middle 10+ Taurus- Karma- 10+ Pisces
  • First 10 Gemini.
Transits and event charts have shown me that Last represents 10H/4H Issues of outward career persona's in tandem with Family and home issues. First is located in 10H.
I have chosen career over family/friends/personal many times.
What made this more interesting was a person I met being a male *third in line* That is he carries the same name as his Grandfather..for ex. [fictitious name] John Anthony More III.
While there is no *More* asteroid there is a *Moreson* the son of *More* and that *last* also represents his career/family in natal and event transits pertaining to achievements and jobs.
So, I think that first names and last names may have to do with public and private persona's.
    Just a thought...

    Node,

so if I got that right, you`d say the first name would point to your personal persona, like the IC; and the family name to your public persona, like MC?

My last name is in Pisces in 3rd house, and my job actually involves the ability to communicate, since I am a teacher.

My first name is in Taurus in my 5th house, and I don`t see how I could ever sacrifice my hobbies for my job, even though Pluto is on the MC.
But I tend to spend a lot of time talking and thinking about my job.

The name, my name was originally derived from, falls into Libra in my 10th house, but I don`t know if that bears any significance.

Yes, and then I *work* with it!
But bottom line is that my first is really much more personal. The inner me. The last seems to represent the public.
A couple years ago when I saw that last in the same degree as vertex I went
... So for me the name asteroids have held a deep fascination. I have seen exact degrees, and too many dead on transits with the names to not take them seriously.
Oh, and this guy I fell for? His first is 29 Taurus in my chart.....Eros and Pan are 29 Taurus.
p.s.-> The name, my name was originally derived from, could you explain/example this? It looks like it ties in.~N

Node, DD probably is talking about not having a last name in the list but the name that was the "root name/word" for that last name is on the list so that name was used in the chart.

My last name is Keagle which is an evolved and Americanized form of the German "Kegel" .. there is a "Kegler" on the astro.com list so I use that because it is similar in sound and spelling to the name which my last name was derived from.

And for DD: I feel that it still is significant.

My last name is Andrews which is my mother's maiden name...my maternal grandfather's last name
it was changed from Andres and Andrade.....Portuguese

    In my chart:

Andrewsong in 11'30 Pisces Stationary Direct in 6th (the sign of both my grandfather's and my moon) stationary bodies are strong energies
    oppose Ascendant in 13'27 Virgo
    square Midheaven in 11'14 Gemini

Carandrews in 10'52 Libra in 2nd
oppose Chiron in 10'32 Aries Retrograde
trine/sextile Lunar Nodes in 10'30 Aquarius in 5th/Leo in 11th
    trine Midheaven in 11'14 Gemini
    sesquiquadrate Mars - '02

Andres Bello in 15'39 Sagittarius in 4th (my roots,my mother and her family)
sextile Uranus in 15'17 Libra in 2nd
trine Ceres in 13'57 Leo in 11th (my mother, family)
    square Ascendant in 13'27 Virgo

    Declinations:
    Andrewsong parallel Uranus - '06
    contraparallel Ascendant - '58
    contraparallel Chiron - '37

Andres Bello parallel Mercury - '48
    parallel Neptune - '15
    contraparallel Saturn - '10

    In my mother's chart

Andrewsong in 3'00 Scorpio Stationary Direct in 5th (her children) stationary bodies are strong energies
conjunct Saturn in 3'04 Scorpio in 5th
trine Jupiter in 4'29 Cancer in 1st (Jupiter is co-ruler of Pisces....so ruler of Midheaven...so can pertain to father)
sextile Mars in 5'49 Capricorn Retrograde in 7th

Andres Bello in 24'07 Leo in 3rd (her siblings)
conjunct Pluto in 22'54 Leo in 3rd (her siblings)
sextile Neptune in 23'25 Libra in 5th (her children)

It's amazing that both my mother and I have stationary direct Andrewsong! Obviously it has great meaning to us! It's no wonder that she didn't give me my father's last name nor wanted me to take my stepfather's last name. Things happen and don't happen for a reason.

    Declinations:

    Andrewsong contraparallel Ceres - '21
Andres Bello contraparallel Saturn - '46 (like me)

    Carandrews parallel Ascendant - '01
(she also has them conjunct.....so Carandrews-Ascendant occultation

(she also has them conjunct.....so Sun-Carandrews- occultation
    parallel Mercury- '18
    parallel Pluto - '17

trine Uranus in 9'00 Sagittarius Retrograde in 9th

Andrewsong in 21'48 Aquarius in 12th
sextile Midheaven in 22'41 Sagittarius (she could be known as Mrs. Andrews...aso its trine IC....so family :-D)
    quintile Uranus - '48

Andres Bello in 5'38 Gemini in 3rd
    quintile Pluto in 7th - '58 (partner)

    Node and Augentier,

well, let`s say my name was "Kerstin", but the name that this one is derived from is "Kristina" or "Christine". So I wondered if I can use the last ones, too?

    EDIT:
Especially the name "Christine" is very interesting, since it is conjunct my Sun and Mercury in Sagittarius.

Also, for some reason I always identified a lot with that name. It had such a familiar ring to it.

However, I am lucky since my first as well as my last name are in the list.

    Ahhh I see- [derivitives]
      Node,

what do you mean? You "work" with it?

I was being literal for a change...laughs. I know where my name asteroids are at all times, track them, progressed, transit, solar arcs and midpoints.
First and Last are both in 6H Aqua currently. 7* for the former-22* for the latter.
Did you guys check out praecipua's link of Dane Rudyar's Sabian interps?-->
This is my first name interp->
PHASE 70 (GEMINI 10°): AN AIRPLANE PERFORMING A NOSE DIVE.

KEYNOTE: A superior ability to challenge nature and play with danger.

Through the controlled use of mental powers man is able to challenge the most basic force in nature: gravitation. He enjoys playing with it as a lion tamer with his violent animals. But what he challenges is within himself as well as outside. Gravitation is the universal binding force of the material world. By challenging it man prepares himself to pierce beyond the physical and to reach higher realms of existence. He may lose the struggle, but that prospect makes the effort more exciting. He might gain "immortality."

This is the final stage of the fourteenth sequence. The symbol for it has a strong sense of finality. No possibility of half measures exist. Man is committed irrevocably to success or failure — at least as a conscious and self-reliant mind. The alternatives are clear-cut. One may describe it as MIND vs. MATTER, or as Man's will against the fate that gravitation so aptly symbolizes.

Many times I have wondered if I will pull out of the nose dive soon enough for my little engine to recover, though I have always likened it to a car headed for the jersey-wall...will I pull out of the turn fast enough? Or crash into the wall?

ps..Pullen says that I have a G-square others say NOT...I am with Pullen.

    Node,

your first name is conjunct my SN by 1°.

Do you think I can use those other names, too, not only my "real" one?

I just checked the transits and realized that my transiting last name is conjunct my Moon.

I wonder if last names can also say something about ancestry or family karma?

The sabian symbol for my first name is:

PHASE 47 (TAURUS 17°): A SYMBOLICAL BATTLE BETWEEN "SWORDS" AND "TORCHES."

KEYNOTE: Refusing to depend upon the past, the seeker turns warrior, fighting anew the eternal "Great War. "

When Gautama, having sought in vain for the answers to his questions among the teachers of tradition, sat under the Bodhi Tree, he had to fight his own battle in his own way, even though it is an eternal fight. The spiritual light within the greater Soul must struggle against the ego-will that only knows how to use the powers of this material and intellectual world. There is no possibility of escape; it is the energy that arises out of the present moment — the inescapable NOW — that the daring individual has to use in the struggle.

This second stage symbol suggests that salvation is attained through the emergent individual's readiness to face all issues as if there were only two opposed sides. So teaches the Bhagavad-Gita. This is the dharma of this stage of human evolution: a stage of POLARIZATION OF VALUES.

    And for my last name:
PHASE 333 (PISCES 3°): PETRIFIED TREE TRUNKS LIE BROKEN ON DESERT SAND.

KEYNOTE: The power to preserve records of their achievements which is inherent in fully matured cultures.

When a vast group of men succeed in building a culture with strong institutions which express themselves in significant symbols and works of art or literature, such an effort of many generations is rarely lost altogether. In one form or another, records of this culture endure or are mysteriously preserved, simply because they reveal the place and function of this particular culture in the long process of unfoldment of the potentialities inherent in archetypal MAN. It is such a concept that has been mythified and popularized in the religious idea of the resurrection of the dead on the Last Day. The symbol of petrified wood in the Arizona desert, however, tells us that the actual preservation of the records is never perfect or total. Only fragments remain, significant enough to reveal the essential archetypal form.

This third symbol of the sixty-seventh five-fold sequence brings the promise of social immortality — i.e. the preservation of the enduring (because archetypally meaningful) factors in whatever man attempts within his culture. A symbol of INDESTRUCTABILITY.

The synergy with family members names is often freaky. If the derivative of your family name is say: from the old French, old English etc...would you think that has past life significance? If it is an exact name tie in I would say yes- use it.
I am also thinking of immigrants, and the millions that altered their names to Americanize them .. those that tried to shed a poor reception in the U.S. due to their family name. Unfortunately this has happened in this country all too often. And with the era's involved violence thru predjudice.
Most people have researched the family name and genealogy on the web a bit. Astro peeps like me might even go to look at discovery dates etc. in an attempt to discern significance.
Deviating from the topic a bit I thought I would mention that some Astronomers are actually *Astrology friendly* like Mike Brown. Mike Brown is one of the great astronomers of our day. I say this because he and his team have made some of the most significant discoveries in recent astronomical history -- in particular, Eris and Sedna. Yet what is more, he has a gift for giving planets names that are bold, original and astutely call attention to crucial world issues.
    ..
His team's 2005 discovery of Eris turned the world of planetary astronomy upside down the next year, when the International Astronomical Union (the IAU, the scientists who officially control names and categories of planets) defined the word "planet" for the first time.
Brown later said that he looked down at his watch at the discovery time as he knew it would be significant to astrologers..
... Your Sabian interps are so strong.. enduring is an apt word.

    Node,

"he synergy with family members names is often freaky. If the derivative of your family name is say: from the old French, old English etc...would you think that has past life significance?"
Yes, I could imagine that. I also wonder, if the family name in your chart could say something about anchestry (sp?) or about what role you personally play in your family.
Well, there was a freaky coincidence. The family name of my mother probably has French roots.
And a few years ago I was to a museum in Paris and I saw a painting of some son or grandson or nephew of Napoleon, and he looked like the spitting image of my uncle. Like they were twins or something like that! REally freaky.

Well, there has been an illegitimite son in our family. Noone knows who the father was. But that son became a servant to an aristrocrat, who cared very much for him. So, who knows? Maybe he was actually the father or knew who he was, and since he couldn`t take the responsibility officially, he maybe took care that way.

" If it is an exact name tie in I would say yes- use it."
How about first names, where the real first name is included in a longer name?

EX: Someone is being called Andreas, there is no Andreas in the list, but Andreasdoppler and Andreashofer are. Could we use these, too?

Or let`s say, someone`s name is Hans - could we use Hansi, too?

In my case, my name "Kerstin" is really a form of "Ch(K)ristina".
But the name "Christine" makes very strong connections in my chart, too.
Also, if English people say my name, it is very similiar to Christine.

I remember, that, when I saw "the Phantom of the OPera" for the first time, I thought that GErry Butler was calling my name, because his pronounciation of "Christine" was so similiar to the pronounciation of my name. Well, maybe it`s only him. lol

"is team's 2005 discovery of Eris turned the world of planetary astronomy upside down the next year, when the International Astronomical Union (the IAU, the scientists who officially control names and categories of planets) defined the word "planet" for the first time.

That is very interesting. And thank God, not all astronomers hate us.

"... Your Sabian interps are so strong.. enduring is an apt word."
Yes, they sound strong, but I`m not really sure of their meaning.

HOwever, the Sabian for my family name reminded me of something my aunt, my brother and me did for my parent`s when they celebrated their 25th anniversary of their wedding.
We wrote a book, in which we wrote down all those little and bigger events we could remember from the 25 years before. Mostly anecdotes from our family-life.
So, you could say we "preserved" a part of our family history.
Also, it was me my grandmother (from Dad`s side) and my grandfather (from Mum`s side) told about their experiences druing the war and after that. Well, especially the things my grandma told me, weren`t really suitable for the ears of a naive 13 year old girl. But war never is, I think.
HOwever, my grandfather only told me, and only once, about his labour in the camps of the Russians, and after he told me he said he would never talk about it again, and he never did.

In both cases it was very weird to listen to them, because I didn`t just hear the words. IT was as if there were pictures, moving scenes, implanted in my brain, and I surely will never forget what they told me, and the feelings they transported by that.

So maybe that is my role in my family dynasty, "carrying" the knowledge about our family.

I understand your dilemma.. I noticed before, all of the morphs on your first. Wasn't exactly sure that was your real name.
      from wiki->842 Kerstin

      Name
      Name Kerstin
      Designation 1916 AM
      Discovery
      Discoverer Max Wolf
      Discovery date October 1, 1916
      Discovery site Heidelberg
      Orbital elements

With the German/Austrian roots and a German discovery. I would start there. I also understand leaving no stone unturned. i.e.
  • Crista= 1015
  • Christen= 11823
  • Christine= 628
  • Kerstin= 842
There are many variations and nicknames for my *first* too. So I have looked at them all. And I do believe in the past lives tie in. Our names are no accident. You have a lot of research to do [or maybe you have already done it.] Spanish, Japanese, you name it. [pun intended]
And just to stir the pot some more....yea I'm crazy like that! I also use numerology. One thing I found very early on... repetitive combinations of numbers. My middle name, year of birth, and last. Are all variations ending in 7, . So I exhaustively researched every 17, 117, 1117, 1127, and so on. Hundreds! Then, I got into reductions. But I will leave you there. You have enough on your plate with Kerstin derivatives.
I do think that an exact asteroid match, spelling everything is the true *now* for you. And not everyone has that.
Hans + Hansi both sound Germania as well, and related to each other. Hansi being the "endearment". I don't know. I would imagine one would use them in tandem. Like a person with a nickname that everyone calls them by. You know the people that are never called by the name on the certificate. I would be suffering embarrassment daily w/out it! Horrible speller me....
And to add, when I made an event chart for the discovery of my *first* using the natal birth time- I was startled to see my MC degree [exact] on the ASC. Karma was conj Karma and Saturn was conj Moon. Now there is some freaky but true Monkey Shines.

    Node,

thank you for the information on the discovery of MY asteroid. That is really cool.

    "Crista= 1015
    Christen= 11823
    Christine= 628
    Kerstin= 842"
I added Kristina, too, because it`s the name "Kerstin" officially and originally stems from.

Funny enough, one of those asteroids, which are variations of my name is my mother`s first name.
And also, the name of my middle brother, is a variation of my father`s middle name.
    The funniest part of all?
My parents denied my grandparents their wish to have us children named after them, like it has been tradition in past centuries. My parents wanted to give us our own, original names, that THEY liked, not becuase of any kind of tradition.
And now it turns out they unknowingly named us after themselves. lol

I risked a glance at those asteroids in my chart, and Christa - my mum`s name- is exactly conjunct my Saturn.
Christen is exactly opposite my Venus and conjunct my Mum`s ASC.
Christine is conjunct my Sun and Mercury - seems, like this one is really MINE, no conjunctions to my Mum`s or Dad`s chart. BUT it is exactly square my Mum`s Moon.
And Kristina is conjunct my Dad`s Mars and also conjunct my Mum`s Saturn.

Looks like these names created some strong family-ties.

"epetitive combinations of numbers. My middle name, year of birth, and last. Are all variations ending in 7, ."
    That is amazing!
I also like numerology, and I also have some connection to the number 7. My complete name is reduced to a 7, and I have been born exactly on 7:07 a.m. That is really my offical time of birth, I checked it because I didn`t believe that such a time can be real. lol
Oh and funny enough my ASC is on 7°01 Sagittarius - Not on 7°07 though. LOL

My Sun and Mercury are on 25° something, my Moon is on 17°07, my Venus is on 6°07 (which happens to be the 7th degree of the Sabian symbols).

Jip, I can relate to the number 7.

"I do think that an exact asteroid match, spelling everything is the true *now* for you. And not everyone has that."
Yes, I know I am lucky, and I also think this exact match is the "main" one.
Interestingly enough my Kristina is exactly opposite my Part of Reincarnation.

"Hans + Hansi both sound Germania as well, and related to each other. Hansi being the "endearment"."
    Yes.

Well, what about names that have no exact hit, but are part of another name?
I mentioned Andreasdoppler - can I use it as an asteroid for Andreas, especially since there is no Andreas-asteroid?

"I was startled to see my MC degree [exact] on the ASC. Karma was conj Karma and Saturn was conj Moon."
    WOW! That is freaky.
And it inspired me to look into the discovery chart of my name in relation to my natal chart.

Kerstin of the discovery chart is conjunct my IC and trine my ASC (btw discovery Kerstin falls onto the 7th degree of Aries ).
Discovery Sun is exactly opposite discovery Kerstin and therefore sextile my ASC and conjunct my MC (and pluto).
Discovery Uranus conjunct my Moon. Discovery Pluto opposite my Venus and conjunct my Christen.
Discovery ASC conjunct my Kristina, and discovery MC conjunct my Saturn and Christa.
Discovery Karma exactly conjunct my SN and also conjunct my DSC.
    Discovery Mars opposite my Kerstin.

Hmm, seems like those discovery charts of one`s name hold some strong connections to one`s natal chart. Very interesting.
