It sounds like a fatalistic intepretation of Mars as a malefic planet in the evil 12th house of hospitals, prisons, etc.

Below I've cut and pasted from DK Foundation for transits/progressions. Sound on the mark? The ones for my chart were quite pertinent.

A woman at a psychic fair once told me my husband would beat me up and wouldn't help look after the children. Rubbish, he has a bad-temper, but he certainly isn't violent, and he is a very good father. Luckily it struck me at the time that she was talking codswallop so I took little notice. I was about 14 - what a silly thing to say to girl of that age! She should have come up with the cliche that I'd marry a tall, dark foreignor and at least she would have got something right.

Mars

By Transit

A transit of Mars to the 12th House frequently creates a temporary sense of impotence and ineffectiveness. In the House of Pisces, Martian energy can be diffused and a person can lose his sense of direction and drive. Not only does he experience difficulty in acting in support of his own interests, he frequently becomes confused as to what they are. Other ways of thinking influence his judgment and his own emotional state can also make him question and revise his direction. At this time he tends to assert himself only fitfully and his changing perspective undermines any course of action, which requires consistency. In these circumstances a person can be open to exploitation and to being misled by others. It is frequently a very frustrating time. Nevertheless, a more thoughtful, accountable, compassionate perspective may be the abiding legacy of this transit.

By Progression

If Mars progresses into the 12th House a person enters a period of his life in which he finds it difficult to define and pursue his personal aims and ambitions.

This may be the result of an oppressive situation in which the will and desires of other constrain his own will, or it may be the result of confusion as to whether he wants success in a material form at all.

In the House of Pisces, Martian energy may be used to great effect for spiritual development. Yet only the chart as a whole will show whether there is any disposition for this. Regardless of a person’s spiritual potential, Mars for as long as it is working through H12, will make it very difficult for him to be effective or assertive because he is to unsure of his own worth and rights as an individual. Even if Mars should progress out of H12, it is unlikely that he will ever be indiscriminately assertive.

Hi sorcha,

Disclaimer: still a beginner… not sure if the following is relevant, but here you go...

When tMars was in Cancer around last Nov (?), before it had retrograded back into Gemini, it was in my 12th house for a bit. Anyway, I was having trouble at work mostly with coworkers. I was groggy, tired, and cranky a lot of the time, incidentally misrepresenting myself due to the crankiness. I got myself into an awkward but petty situation. Some ppl were gossiping, and I didn’t know how to defend myself against it. I felt pretty horrible. But anyway, things ultimately set themselves right and the office seems pretty harmonious now. tMars will move forward back into my 12th house in the spring (I think). The advice I’ve read is to try to work alone if possible, keep a low profile, and stay observant of your surroundings throughout the duration of this transit. (Advice for myself: an espresso a day keeps the sleepy away… but that is neither here nor there…)

I would say, it’s easy to feel worried about it, but don’t get *too* worried. I try to remind myself that things are never as bad as they seem. Fear is a state of mind, so if anything ‘funky’ happens, remember that it should pass and that there’s always potential for things to set themselves right.

Found this through the great peeps of LL. Pick a card for yourself.

Here's the one I got. Maybe it'll help:

27. Healing

You carry your wound. With the ego, your whole being is a wound. And you carry it around. Nobody is interested in hurting you, nobody is positively waiting to hurt you; everybody is engaged in safeguarding his own wound. Who has got the energy? But still it happens, because you are so ready to be wounded, so ready, just waiting on the brink for anything.

You cannot touch a man of Tao. Why? - because there is no one to be touched. There is no wound. He is healthy, healed, whole. This word whole is beautiful. The word heal comes from the whole, and the word holy also comes from the whole. He is whole, healed, holy.

Be aware of your wound. Don't help it to grow, let it be healed; and it will be healed only when you move to the roots. The less the head, the more the wound will heal; with no head there is no wound. Live a headless life. Move as a total being, and accept things.

Just for twenty-four hours, try it - total acceptance, whatsoever happens. Someone insults you, accept it; don't react, and see what happens. Suddenly you will feel an energy flowing in you that you have not felt before.

Osho The Empty Boat Chapter 10

Commentary:

It is a time when the deeply buried wounds of the past are coming to the surface, ready and available to be healed.

The figure in this card is naked, vulnerable, open to the loving touch of existence. The aura around his body is full of light, and the quality of relaxation, caring and love that surrounds him is dissolving his struggle and suffering. Lotuses of light appear on his physical body, and around the subtle energy bodies that healers say surround each of us. In each of these subtle layers appears a healing crystal or pattern.

When we are under the healing influence of the King of Water we are no longer hiding from ourselves or others. In this attitude of openness and acceptance we can be healed, and help others also to be healthy and whole.

Hi Guys,

Thanks so much for your kind replys that were extremely informative and helpful.
And Teo its funny I have had a similar experience a few months ago in work like you explained something happened that really annoyed me and I reacted very angrily and it made a bit unpopular for a while even though I didnt instigate what happened, maybe the Mars thing was in effect even back then. And do you know I have been really tired lately even though I have been going to bed early, feeling really grouchy and having really nasty thoughts towards people. I have to try and snap out of it or at least be really consious of it.

Thanks again Blue Moon and Teo 8 )
