An excerpt from Dana Gerhardt's article on the 5th house:

quote:
Your 5th house likewise holds a gypsy spirit that knows just how to make your heart sing. Traditional astrology gives this house a double association with Venus, planet of pleasures and passions. Venus "joys" in this house, which means her natural tendencies find fortunate expression here. The Chaldean order of planets, which assigns Saturn to the 1st house and Jupiter to the 2nd, gives fun-loving Venus to the 5th. It is well known that when transits or progressions energize the 5th house, people do uncharacteristic things. They have affairs. They buy flashy new cars. They dream of running away to the circus. They behave, in short, like children.

There is vital life force energy in the 5th house. This is a natural progression in the wheel of the houses. The emerging self is given a supportive container through 4th house home and family. When the emotional life is thus nurtured, power gathers. There is energy to create. Or procreate. There is enthusiasm for life. One is vibrant and radiant. This may be why modern astrologers assign rulership of the 5th house to the Sun. The Sun has star quality. It says "I am here!" It needs to express itself dynamically. It wants to feel special. It wants to love and be loved. Do we really need to choose either Venus or the Sun when judging which matters more in this house? It might be wiser to keep both in mind. In the 5th, you must express your Sun without apology. And you must pursue what brings your Venus joy.

People often come to astrology readings because they feel stuck. A question I usually ask clients before the session is "What, if anything, have you been neglecting lately?" The stuck ones usually reply "Myself." What they typically mean is they aren't having any 5th house fun. They aren't taking time off to play. They are being good little girls and boys and doing what's expected of them. They're working without a break, in hopes that some day, all the delayed gratification will pay off. They are like the villagers before Vianne arrives - the widow still wearing mourning black forty years past her husband's death, the village mayor who drinks bitter lemon water and writes sermons about the virtues of denial. They are gripped by a sneaky malady known as "anhedonia," the inability to indulge in fun.

Among working adults in particular, this disease may have reached epidemic proportions. At some point people realize something is missing from their life. Maybe they respond by placing an ad in the personals column. Maybe they visit a therapist and try to locate their inner child. Maybe they buy a book like The Artist's Way to help release creative passion. If they visit a good astrologer, they will be encouraged to open the chocolate shop in their 5th house. Its sweets are no mere luxury. They're critical. When 5th house happiness no longer feeds the psyche, there is little power to move forward in other houses. One's 10th house career grows stale. One's 7th house partnership feels unfulfilling. One's 2nd house income stays flat. Deny your 5th house and your whole chart may suffer.

I have my share of problems, but tapping into my 5th house isn't one of them. Maybe I spend so much time there because I have its ruler--Neptune--conjunct my Sun and trine my Moon. Also, I have a Leo Moon which adds to the 5th house vibe.

I need to play, and I do incorporate play into my daily life. I don't know how not to.

I pursued a couple careers that didn't allow for playfulness, and I wasn't happy with them. Now I basically play for a living, and I'm so happy I could squeal. Like a pig.

I think having Pisces on the 5th also contributes to me finding subjects like literature and philosophy "play." I get a lot of pleasure out of studying subjects that help me understand life and what it means to be human. I tried studying a more dry, limited, man-made discipline--law--and I had never been more bored in my life than I was during that year. I felt like I wasn't learning anything real. Nevermind that my creative side felt stifled by the rules of precedent.

When I experienced Pluto transiting the ruler of my 5th house, I became more honest about what I needed in a love affair. That was one of the biggest transits of my life, in terms of being transformative. I accepted that I had been placing limits on my feelings and didn't want that anymore. I wanted to just let go and let our commitment develop organically; to trust and take risks. I couldn't hide any longer how deeply I really do love and how deeply I want to be loved in return, and how that love brings me my greatest joy. My Cappy Venus protested, but I assured her she'd like it.

So how about you? What's going on with your 5th house?

Not much :-( It´s empty ...

Although in Cancer - would that mean I "enjoy" my home? Because I truly do - any diy around the house or making my home into a decorated sanctuary for me is a pleasure. (moon is in Libra 7th house). Just waiting for Mars to transit here and give it some more action ;-).

I find this house a bit scary when doing charts for "potential boyfriends" - it always seem to give them that extra thing that will be "difficult" to work with in a relationship... like a restless party-animal soul or the eternal bachelor type. Especially when Saturn is in here - they seem to never want to settle down. And with Neptune they seem to party hard ;-) at least this is a rule amongst the charts I´ve made.

Take Care

My husband has Sun conjunct Saturn in this house in Aquarius. His hobby and his job are the same - computers. Very fitting, eh?

Didn't want to settle down isn't true, but I met him he was in his thirties when we met so that may have something to do with my perception of this matter.

Mine houses Chiron conjunct Eris - how that works out, I don't know - I only found out after reading Glaucus' post yesterday. It's probably more to do with children and/or creativity than having fun at parties - that's an age rather than a personality thing.

My 5th house is in Taurus; there's chiron there. Alot of people tell me I should work with children.
Ruler of 5th is in the 9th, conjunct sun, and sextile mars in the 11th.

I really don't know what that means, but I know I love my dog, whom I regard as my child . And I think I'd make an indulgent parent (but I don't believe in spoiling the kids!)

Hello Jane

I have lots of 5th houses:

Sun-pis-5th
Moon-pis-5th
Merc-pis-5th
Mars-pis-5th
Saturn-Aqua-5th
Chiron-pis-5th

I do feel like a child inside,,,alot. I do not have kids but I never lost touch of how it feels.

I am also feeling a tremendous burden as far as a career is concerned. Its like i want to play and express myself at all costs and it feels even more strong the older i get. The major problem with this is that I am not sure in what direction i should go. I, too, have done jobs that literally made me cry as i was doing them because i hated it so mad, even though i made great money. I had to quit because it felt so wrong. From what you described it feels like i have a 5th house problem Any suggestions??

Heheheh,..my Mars is on my 5th house cusp in Pisces..I do put a lot of energy into what I enjoy, and I tend to put way more effort toward having fun than my responsibilities =/

Jane,

the cusp of my 5th house falls into Taurus;
It`s ruler, Venus is in Capricorn in the 1st house conjunct Isis and Osiris and square Pluto.

Transit Pluto is heading towards a conjunction with my Venus (in a few years - venus is on 6° Cappy) and that doesn`t sound like much fun.
Venus also rules my 6th and 10th house, and with Transit Pluto moving into a conjunction to Venus in 1st and into a square with my Pluto in Libra in 10th house (9°) and MC (5°), I`m really a bit scared of what is coming my way.

dang it, i wish i knew which house system to use! in placidus, my 5th is empty (but with moon on the cusp), and in equal, my chiron and moon are in the 5th. and i AM emotionally all about FUN and i LOVE kids AND i also have a lot of wounds in terms of my creativity; i tend to neglect that part of myself because it was discouraged, YET when i create, i am totally healed. equal tends to work for my chart better (it fits better), yet i hear it is silly, so i really don't know!

Thats Intresting Heart cakes,

I've been always drawn to media art being of being a gemini sun in the 5th house, I never liked traditional art because I whould always get angry.

I did take some art classes, but I whould just be cursing for 3 hrs straight.

I'm more of a media artist.

Moon conjunct Pluto in the 5th. Uranus also joins them in the 5th if I use Koch houses. Pluto connects through sextile to my Venus conjunct Neptune in the 7th. Lots of creativity.

Like sinderlou, I also feel more and more strongly about pursuing creative avenues as I age. I'm pursuing one of them right now, but not vocationally. Just on the side. I enjoy the positive feedback I'm receiving.

Can someone shed a light on six planets in fifth house? What is the purpose of my life? How do you see over the long term picture?
