Hello! I just saw my daughter's natal chart for the first time, and I'm a bit worried. She has 4 major planets falling in her 8th house.

Please excuse my lack of knowledge, but isn't that the house of Death and sex? Of course that may be symbolic, but anything with the word "death" doesn't sound too good, should I be worried?

She has all these planets in her 8th House:

Sun in Libra
Mars in Liba
Venus in Libra
Mercury in Scorpio

Can anyone shed some light, or at least help put my mind at ease a little?

Thanks so much!

It's also the house of tax and shared finances. Maybe she has a future in business or banking.

Having a look at his chart, under Placidus my elder son has Sun, Mercury and Venus in Libra in this house. I'm not worried about him, the contrary. He already shows an insight and emotional maturity that is beyond his years. He's far from perfect, I'm not saying that, but I'm not worried about him having planets in this house.

This is the natural house of Scorpio, so think of some of the association of Scorpio and Pluto - depth, getting to the fundamentals of something, insight.

Hope this helps?

I really dont believe any of the houses are inherently bad. How people manifest what they're given is really their choice. No worries

I have the chart of an obvious serial killer, plenty of Scorp all bundled together, Mars and Uranus conjunct in the 8th too.
My mum says shes proud of me. I help people for whom it seems there is no hope left. I give it back to them.

8th house have a deep interest in psychology, unconscious motivations and transformation.

In terms of sex and death, they tend to be deeply intrigued by the secrets and mysteries of human existence, including the darker truths of the human world.

It certainly doesn't make them any likelier to die sooner or less pleasantly than people with the other eleven house placements! No need to worry.

She can turn it to her advantage.

She can be a great coroner. A superb writer or filmaker of crime stories. A cunning detective. She can make money doing funeral houses. She can be a great sex therapist.

Since the 8th house also has to do with other people's money, she can inherit lots of money, or even win big at lottery, get a lot of money from her spouse.

I love how astrology always gives all these glamorous professions as examples.

Do astrologers not realize that most people are blue collars workers? So everyone with planets in the 8th can be a detective or a doctor? More likely a janitor, watier, or an office worker.

LOL

god.. i could never be a janitor or office worker!

... whatever my 8th house says, it's totally not me AT ALL.
I would be totally bored, wasting my brain and would last about 5 minutes

I think one has to consider what sign/ruling planet the 8th is in.. agree?

I have Mars, Jupiter and Saturn in Virgo in the 8th.

It's the area/location/atmosphere those planets will do their work in. She will want to transform people through her energies (Sun, Mars, Venus and Merc energies) and it looks like she will want to do it through relationships and deep, penetrating insight. Her south node and north node might give you some clues how she will go about it. But, she will do it no matter what... so you can only learn how to best direct her energies in those areas. You can prepare her now with information on relationships and spiritual unions and guide her toward areas of education that will serve her future and give her the tools to express the energy in the highest fashion.
I know it seems like an almost insurmountable task, but with the right intention and focus on the goal, you will make a difference. You are already aware and you can set her on the highest path so she gains the most strength in her youth so she can decide her best course in her future.

That's what I want for my daughter too. Thank you for reminding me and inspiring me.

My son has 8th house Sun,Merc,Venus,Jupiter and Chiron..He is very different, I will say that..He is also very, very artsy..Photography,acting,modeling, and design is his interest. He plans to attend Pratt Institute in New York 2009 after graduating highschool..8th house is not always a bad thing...Ppl see 8th house as dark..Its perspective..

Also wanted to ask about 8th house sun ppl, I read somewhere that it represents a person who was abandon by thier father or absent from their lives..My son did not have his dad around for the first 12 years of his life..

Mama Mia, I'm very curious what you said about people with Sun in the 8th house being abandoned by their fathers. My daughter's Sun is in the 8th, and her father (my ex-husband) left and moved far away a few weeks after her first birthday. He is very absent from her life. We don't even get phone calls from him.

Thanks to everyone for your reassuring comments. It eases my mind to know the 8th house is not as bad as it may initially appear. I don't know if I would like her to be a funeral home owner, or a janitor though. LOL.

I worry so much about her, and what kind of person she will be, especially being without a father. I am trying my best to raise her right. I can already see that she will be artistic, and will try to support her passions and dreams as much as possible, as well as her life purpose.

Congratulations on Pratt Mama Mia! That is a great school, your son must be very talented! If my daughter wants to go to any private art school, I guess I'll have to start saving now!!!

My parents are still married, so technically my dad's been around. However, when I was being raised he was on the road quite a bit. His Sun squaring my own, the interaction we had was not one that sees eye to eye. Astrology has helped me understand him a bit better in these days, and of course he's getting older and maturing, too, so now there is a certain level of mutual appreciation that was lacking before.

My best friend has his sun in the eighth house and his father abandoned him when he was five. I think an eighth house sun can indicate a father who was distant in some way or a father who left for whatever reason.

To GemGemGem, your daughter will be fine, though be careful about the eighth house mars because this may make her careless with credit cards according to Bob Marks. Make sure you teach her about finances at a young age.

With all of those personal planets in the eighth house, she will definitely be very intense and have a certain depth about her that isn't obvious in Libras.

Allright, BlueRoamer, I'll take a clue from you, so I'll revise my post to GemGemGem.

New Post to GemGemGem:

She can turn this to her advantage.

Most likely, she will be a janitor, watier, or an office worker.

**Is that better?**

Being a proctologist is hardly glamourous.

Just like everyone else, you get to deal with @rseholes.

Having three major planets (SUN, MARS, MERCURY) and VERTEX in the 8th house as well, I agree with many of the descriptions above.

What was NEW to me was that theory of the "absent father". My dad was (an dis) physically present ... but I always saw him as weak, moody, soft cranky ... NEVER experienced him as a real "strong" male figure ... always find it hard to approach him the right way .. and still today, I am not completely "through" with that topic. (I always pondered about my Chiron in 4th house when pondering about my strange relationship to my father.)

Thinking about that now ... I want to add one thought: A strong/stressed 8th house gives the person a certain LONER-quality ... They thrive on spending time alone, quite often (that's at least very true with me). They can appear "evasive" or "erratic" ... but 8th house people have the privilege of not feeling "lonely" as easily as others ... because they like dealing with their "internal matters" all by themselves. They are self-declared loners and like that! (In fact ... adding this "missing father"-thought ... maybe they HAVE to be able to get along on their own, seeking guidance within themselves ... and can gain personal strength through that.)

Solar return a few years back I had venus, sun, mercury & saturn falling in my 8th house. That particular year I was very very bad. Nothing bad happened to me out of my control or anything terrible like you would imagine, everything bad that happened to me I did to myself. It was crazy because I wasn't into astrology back then, recently when I looked back at my SR that year, I was STUNNED. My planets in my 8th house, just like I knew they would be....

my Sun is in my 8th and my father is somewhat distant - work oriented - but he has always tried to remain very involved in my life. i think its usually me who likes the privacy and pushes him away a bit.

My guy has sun, venus, mercury, pluto and saturn in the 8th in Libra,
and I must say he is a very special person.
I love and appreciate him so much, for his inner qualities. (he is far from perfect, but to me he is perfect!)

I think they see life in pretty grey tones - they have a conscious awareness of death in daily life.
But their devotion and tenacity is beyond compare.
A positive manifestation of this would be someone who would be loyal to the end
While a negative manifestation would be overt evilness.
However, evilness is not likely to manifest very much because the karma in the 8th is great, and the bearer is very conscious of and understands this.

Many planets in the 8th points to old soul, and someone who has to bear a certain burden - but, who has a special purpose, and is a natural investigator, counsellor, and excellent researcher.
And the loner part is true! In death we stand alone.

I suppose they are mysterious, and can conjure a cloud of mystery very easily. This makes them excellent tricksters, and have a seductive aura, all the result of the 8th house.

Regarding the absent father - I'm not so sure, but most likely. And the loose finances are spot on. He is an avid spender/shopper.

Oh, and don't be worried - they have sufficient inner resources to take care of themselves in their lives - very independent, and loner types, coupled with inner strength and tolerance for difficult circumstances, penetrating to boot!

Thank you, BLUE MOON! ;-)

One more thought: 8th house people are not easy to approach ... and I guess ... they have hard times when it comes to (personal) intimacy. All matters concerned with "intimacy" (craving it - or avoiding it) is an ever repeated topic in their lives, depending on how their 8th-house-planets are aspected. I guess they CAN have "clingy" streaks in their personality ... or the other way round: Being as evasive as hell! ;-)
