Is the 4th house of the father or mother? I have heard that it tells of the father. Also of the home and family life. What if you have moon, uranus and neptune in the 4th house? Moon is in pisces and uranus and neptune in aquarius.

yes hm uranus in the fourth house usually means early loss or spereation of parents and the moon being there i would think its the mother...cus for the moon and uranus to be in the same house they must be conjunct in your natal chart

I would disagree somewhat.. Perhaps the mother was an influential character.. you relate very emotionally to your childhood.. uranus in the 4th.. you either moved alot or something about your childhood was eratic and unpredictable.. if it was conjunct your moon your mother might have came and went or she might have displayed characteristic of uranus.. neptune in the 4th could have ment on the good side the home or childhood is the source of inspiration and imagination. the parents could have been artistic and creative. on the bad side the parents could have been users of drugs and prone to negative escapism. Perhaps they didnt give much guidance to the child so since leaving the home. the child has to learn the hard way about right and wrong. I personally have also figured the placing of neptune in the 4th to literally mean a home life near the water.. perhaps near the beach or on a coast. if not in the the case.. then later in the life the native could want a home near the water.

moon and uranus is conjunct. So, basically it is a bad thing? Does it mean early loss of the mother?

Seeingstars: I have moon and uranus in the 4th, and I'd say your categorization is fairly accurate.

Isis, how did the 4th house affect you? I don't know much about the 4th house and am trying to figure it out.
Seeing Stars, what are uranus characteristics?

Funny because I never paid too much mind to the 4th house and now I found out that it is about family. I always thought that the 8th, 7th, 1st and 12th houses were the biggest.

I have uranus in the fourth house and I moved to another country when I was eight and my parents separated when I was 12, and basiclly had an unstable home life. My dad is an "absent" father and quite a strange person. He has uranus conjunct ascendant. I would think that in my case my fourth house represents the father. But my mom is n artist and unconventional, so maybe it can represent her. Kind of confusing.

Astrology can get confusing. What would be good aspects of the 4th house?

Aries Sun: With moon and Uranus (and mars) in the 4th I'm:

Very close to my mother

Have move around my entire life, my first trip being from Japan to the US when my mother was 8 mos pregnant w/ me. You would think that after moving around so much as a child I would have grown to detest it, but now it seems its in my blood. After about 3-4 years of living in one place I start feeling a complusion to move.

Usually have some form of unconventional home life/environment.

My mother was very unusual (not literally, but in the environment in which I grew up, she was)

Basically, take the energy of Uranus (unconvetionality) and marry it to the energy of the 4th house (home, mother, etc) and you get weird living situations, unconventional upbringing, possibly frequent moves for usually unconventional reasons or to odd places.

I've also read that the relationship with the mother can be erratic, unconventional or unrealiable w/ Uranus in the 4th though that wasn't my experience.

What I've often wondered is if Uranus in the 4th (Cancer's house) affects one's emotional makeup at all since it's in the house of emotion.

I have always suspected this but this is I think the first time Ive read it. wierd.. you see we usually see the 4th house as just our childhood or the homelife. but astrologer Walter D. Pullen and I both believe this house to encompass the area of life dealing with imagination, fantasies,inner feelings, and domestic life.

I think about the 4th house as domestic life whether in your childhood or in your adult life (and not just physically but also mentally and emotionally)... HOME in every way. That covers quite a lot.

I have Neptune in Scorpio in the 4th.

Seeing Stars, the 4th house Neptune is a very important part of me.
My childhood and home enviroment was materially stable but my mother had/has psychological problems, and that was the influence under which I lived my childhood. I have a tendency to escape to dreaming, to use it as a defence against the world.

One of my favorite things still today is to be alone, listen to music, get lost in my thoughts and be totally safe from "the bad world out there". My home is open to my loved ones, but basically I am very private.

I have always lived by the seaside, and would never move inland. I cannot BREATHE elsewhere. I spent my childhood summers on an island and took boat rides all the time.

I can somewhat relate to these quotes:

"Neptune in the Fourth House indicates that your imaginative and spiritual potential may manifest through conditions within the home environment. There may be strong emotional or subconscious bonds between family members - cultural, religious or spiritual training may be an important part of home life. On another level there can be something strange, secret or peculiar regarding your home environment, family, or domestic life."

(from http://www.astrologyweekly.com/learn-astrology/neptune-in-4th-house.php)

"With Neptune in the fourth house you're highly receptive, and want to explore the hidden mystery of the origins of mankind and each individual's place in the scheme of things. You feel obligated to those who gave you the necessities of life in your early childhood. This can form a background for feelings of inadequacy, which in turn makes you feel even more insecure. Asserting yourself, even at the risk of failure, is a good antidote for this pattern. Home, family and security may seem ideal to you, yet you will be asked to sacrifice something (security, heritage, family ties, real estate) in this regard. You can be very imaginative with your home and domestic setup, or a sense of community and unity pervades your family life. If Neptune is afflicted, however, you may have delusions regarding your family, an unstable home life, and/or a weak, unstable, or chemically dependent parent."

~ 4th House ~ .. Liz Greene ..
( excerpt from 'saturn in fourth' )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~ The fourth house, corresponding to Cancer and the Moon, is the domain of childhood, origin, family, and roots. As the base of the astrological chart it represents the base of the individual himself both literally, in terms of the home he has come out of, and symbolically in terms of his inner sense of security and safety. This house describes the emotions and atmosphere which surround him before he is old enough to make a conscious and rational choice about whether he accepts them or not. This house may be associated with the Jungian idea of the personal unconscious and with areas of conditioned instinctual reactions imposed by the early environment.
~ Because of this association with influences that occur prior to the development of the discriminating mind, any planet placed here is highly suspect because it points to something in the psyche which must be first discovered and brought up to the surface before it can be dealt with constructively. The influence of this house lies like a great moving subterranean river beneath the surface of the later personality which is developed in accord with the Sun and Ascendant; and this river may be powerful enough to dominate the behaviour without being seen. It is a wholly personal house and does not seem to have much to do with the larger area of collective unconscious streams which affect the group emotional life. Because it is so personal, it is that much more difficult to approach with a clear and unbiased eye.
~ The fourth house is generally considered to be the indicator of the father and his relationship with the individual. This is of course subject to much argument, and the only clear statement which has so far come out of the confusion is that the fourth-tenth house axis refers to both parents. In some ways it is immaterial which house goes with which parent as problems with one automatically create compensatory problems with the other; however, I am inclined by experience to assign this house to the father,as it is he who establishes the backbone of the family, gives it his name, and determines by his presence or absence the security or instability of the child's early life. It is rare that a child loses his mother except by death; but when a marriage fails, or there is no marriage in the first place, it is generally the father who leaves and whose support is withdrawn. The background of a difficult or broken home in childhood is usually coincident with afflicted planets in the fourth house or the fourth sign.
HD. I agree with you. Also, I know that most of us know this but many people ignore empty houses but they are very revealing. My fourth house is empty but its ruler is afflicted when compared with the natural ruler of the 4th house. This makes what HD posted relevent to me.
Hi, it is neither the house of the mother or the father, but the 4th house rules grand-parents and ancestors. However, it also rules the role of the "Mother" as in nurturing.
Ugh, this is such a difficult question in my mind.
My 10th house is home to my Sun in Cancer (conjunct Chiron) and my 4th house is home to a Sagittarius Saturn/Uranus conjunction and a Neptune in Capricorn.
Home life was really difficult. Extremely abusive mother (most likely a sociopath) but an incredibly lovely, self effacing father that kept the crazy to a minimum. My mother is a Cancer, my father was a Taurus. We moved house a lot due to financial issues but our household was very unique in style. It wasn't traditional in the slightest.
I really don't know what to tell you -- I like to think of the 4th as our roots. Whoever or whatever is responsible for your personal culture is found in your 4th house. I don't think it's necessarily your mother or your father, although if you knew them and they played a role in your life or wounded you something will probably be there to indicate that.
In my experience the 4th house represents the mother IF you have a chart where the sun is below the horizon; it represents the father if sun is above the horizon, except for when Sun is in 10th/near MC.
