After much research on this somewhat ignored aspect, I have found it to be significant and almost always positive. The orb is 1 degree. For instance, Ted Kennedy has mercury semisextile saturn - merc/saturn aspects are classic critical thinking/analytical mind aspects. Kennedy, whether you agree with his politics or not, is brilliant and has drafted tons of ratified legislation (Examples of merc/saturn aspects btw - Obama has mercury opposition saturn. Hillary Clinton has mercury square saturn. Al Gore has merc quincunx saturn with vesta triangulating in positive aspect (trine, semisextile). Interestingly, George W and McCain do not have merc/saturn aspects).

The semisextile does not have the agitation that the quincunx has. In my opinion, the quincunx does not work without a triangulating planet. Meaning, a third planet in aspect to the two planets quincunxing each other. That is why it seems unpredictable bec it is passive and not in aspect without the 3rd planet. It can be triggered in transit but on its own it is not in effect. It is a 12th harmonic aspect, not a primary aspect like the semisextile which divides the circle by 12. When it has the triangulating planet it becomes potent and has at least a 3 degree orb and maybe more.
The quincunx can be very positive or negative depending on what other aspects it is triangulating. If it is a trine or sextile, it is a powerful but easy transfer of energy. If it is a square, it offers powerful, more 3d transformational change that is intense and challenging.

The semisextile is more relaxed and similar to the sextile in nature and does not require a third planet as it is a primary aspect. Like many have said - it requires development but is a very present energy on its own. Underrated IMO.

Bucketrider I agree.

Apart from the fact that the signs one sign apart not sharing element or modality I think they represent similar stages of evolvement and involvement.
