The composite chart between two people can tell you the prospects of the relationship, what keeps these two together and what creates conflicts. It can also show the durability of the rationship, if combined with the synastry charts (Saturn aspects between individuals, and in composite). It can reveal, how these people met, how they are connected, and even some experiences they might share, such as travel or studies. The synastry shows how the two individuals see each other and how they are affected by them. A comparisn between each individual's chart and the composite can show you how much this relationship means to him/her. IP: Logged |

Hi fiery, a synastry chart shows how each of your planet energies interact when they come in contact with each other throughout the day. Like if your moon is square his mercury then there would be a tense energy when you were feeling emotional and he was analyzing your emotions mentally, rather than reacting to you with his own moon which might be trine to your moon. So if you were both feeling emotional, things would be easy and if he was in the mental realm he wouldn't be able to easily understand you while you were in the emotional realm. The Comp is both of your natal charts banging together and then meeting half way to form the nature of the energies of a "third" entity, your "relationship" which will have it's own moon/emotional nature etc. that can also either agree with each of you individually through a synastry or have more conflict with one or both of you etc. So, they are both significant in their own ways. I hope that helps a little. IP: Logged |

So, which chart would be best to study a relationship? Meaning will there be a chance between two people? A real study of a relationship?IP: Logged |

This is so confusing to me too. I just don't get it. I understand the concept but for some reason I can't get a feel for it. Wouldn't that make the composite the best of the two anyway? I've had the interactive composite on astro.com be so specific and so absolutely precise especially about a past relationship. It was word for word most of the issues we had. I don't see how you can have a good composite and bad synastry. That throws me.IP: Logged |

Do you need technical info, how a Synastry (a "house overlay") and a Composite are created? Or is this more about the meaning? I guess it's more about the latter, right? To make it as short as possible: A SYNASTRY is more about the interplay between TWO INDIVIDUAL PERSONS - how each of them affects the other. Both seen as singular/individual beings, affected by the other. A COMPOSITE is about the STORY they create TOGETHER - it is like a natal chart to their relationship as such - or like a MOVIESCRIPT to the things that are happening to them - as a couple. It doesn't tell about the individual persons anymore, but about the UNIT as a whole, about their common goal/theme/topic. Hope that helps. ;-) IP: Logged |

This same topic is discussed and is resolved over at another forum. Here is the thread: http://www.astrologyweekly.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6560 The thread provides very very thorough explanations of how the two are different and how, exactly, they two may be used in telling information about the nature of any relationship and the people involved in it. Good explanations. Just to add on, something else to do with the composite chart is to compare it to each person's natal chart. Conjunctions to the natal can illuminate which aspects of the relationship are most strongly felt by the individual. That can explain how two people could be in the same relationship and have vastly different subjective experiences within it. One may have comp Pluto conjunct their Moon, while the other has comp Mercury conjunct their Moon. Also, a composite planet may be tightly conjunct a hot spot in someone's natal--their chart ruler or dsc ruler, for example. That could make the relationship more significant to the person than is otherwise indicated in their synastry. IP: Logged |
