okay first of all, how much of our moon sign is apparent in our appearance? i'm guessing probably a lot.. and since the moon is subtle, feeling, instinctive, i'm guessing that moon sign has a lot to do with attraction, but on a more unconscious level. anyone agree or have theories on this? i'm betting that a lot of the people we're instinctively attracted to, in a caring, sweet way, the kind of person we feel we could cuddle with or be close to, had their moon in positive aspect to our own.

My Moon is Conjunct the Venus end of #1 son's Venus/Neptune Trine. My Sun is Sextile/Trine #2 son's Moon/Neptune Opposition.

The cat came from a rescue with no known birth data but she is also fairly demanding on cuddles.

I don't agree about appearance but I'm moon in aqua and I've noticed anytime I really seem to be able to talk to somebody and click they have gemini moon.

In my experience, any nice moon aspect will do it. Me and my bf have Jupiter-Moon DW and our main source of closeness comes through fun and laughter. But because our moons are in quite different signs (water and fire!), the expression of that closeness comes out in quite different ways. I know when he's feeling close to me if he calls me by a silly nickname - eg when he affectionately refers to me as "fatty" (it's supposed to be ironic), and I refer to him as "boofhead".......

But for another example, there is someone (a crush from way back) who's Mars conjuncts my moon. And although our moons square each other (Scorpio and Aquarius), the feeling of the Moon-Mars in Scorpio is most definitely an intense emotional attraction. But you're right about it being unconscious - I never got to know this person at all beyond the superficial, but my instinctive feeling about him was all about the urge to bond. He also had moon square Pluto so this would have modified his Aquarius moon somewhat.
