How can you tell if a planet is lord of a house? For example, in my chart, my 7th house begins in Taurus. Does this mean that Venus is the Lord of my 7th house?IP: Logged |

Yes.The ruler of a house is always the ruler of the sign that is on the cusp or intercepted. 7th house in Taurus; natural ruler of Taurus is Venus, so Venus is ruler of the 7th house here. 6th house in Aries; natural ruler of Aries is Mars, so Mars is ruler of 6th house in that chart.

Hi Pluto Princess,Found this: A particular sign rules each house in the chart. For instance, Venus rules the 7th house - the house of marriage and close partnerships, Pluto rules the 8th house - sometimes referred to as the house of death and taxes, Jupiter rules the 9th house - the house of the higher mind. It must be noted that while specific signs rule specific houses, in an individual’s birth chart another sign could be the lord of the house. This difference between the ruler and the lord of the house is very significant in Vedic or Indian astrology, although lords are not commonly used in Western astrology. If the lord and the ruler are harmonious, the issues governed by the house will be less problematic. Lastly, a particular house governs a particular aspect of an individual’s life. As delineated in Linda Goodman’s Relationship Signs, they are: the 1st house (Ascendant) - the individual personality; 2nd house - values and possessions; 3rd house - communication; 4th house - roots and origins; 5th house - pleasure and creativity; 6th house - work and routine; 7th house - relationships; 8th house - loss and common property; 9th house - philosophies and far countries; 10th house (Midheaven) - occupation and calling; 11th house - friends and acquaintances; and 12th house - beyond the personal. An astrologer analyzing a birth chart combines the information about the ruler of a house, the lord of the house, the relationship between the lord and the ruler, the planets in the house and in a particular sign, and the aspects that form between the planets. Thus, the analysis of a birth chart is quite an elaborate affair that requires intense study and long hours. http://consciousevolution.com/metamorphosis/0210/astrowill0210.htm 8th IP: Logged |

WEll, I never called it Lord, but to me it`s jsut the natural ruler (Jupiter as natural ruler of 9th house) and individual ruler (Jupiter as ruler of the house with Sagittarius.)So to answer your question, you`d have to look which housecusp is in Sagittarius, this house will be ruled by Jupiter. That article makes it sound as though a ruler and lord are two different things.A house ruler is the natural ruler and the house lord is the natal ruler? Or am I getting that wrong? But then it says that Western astrology doesn't use lords, and that wouldn't be true, because it definietly considers "natal house rulers," if that is the definition of a house lord. Does that make sense? 8th IP: Logged |

Maybe western astrology didn`t use lords some centuries ago.But lately we have started to, haven`t we? Also, I would always look at both natural ruler (Venus for love) and the individual ruler (ruler of 7th house) to see what this life-area is all about for a person (actually I think that the 7th house ruler may even be a bit more important than Venus itself). Reeeeallly? That's fascinating...how so? My chart ruler is Venus and it's in my 7th. My 7th ruler is Mars, which is in my 1st in Scorpio, opposite Venus! (Round and round we go!)More important in terms of personality, who we're attracted to, or in synastry contacts? 8th IP: Logged |

I think so. It surely explains the different reaction of some people to their Venus. For some Venus is highly erotic and figures strongly in romantic relationships and for some it is almost never activated. Maybe in those cases Venus is in the 6th house and rules the 11th or 3rd house, and therefore she wouldn`t be all THAT important in relationships. In my case there are ALWAYS mercurial aspect, who don`t even feel all that mercurial alone, they feel very romantic and like having met the perfect man. Well, MErcury rules my 7th house. Now, Venus is important for me, too, as she rules my 5th house of romance. And for you she definitely is important, too. Also I think a connection between house 1 and house 7 may appear more often in synastries as a Venus-Mars-aspect (and it`s more individual. Well, I could do a little research on this one. Do the rulers of house 4 and 5 and 7 and 1 and 7 and 8 happen more often than Sun/ Moon, Venus / Mars or Venus/Pluto-aspects?) EDIT: Actually i could expand it to Sun / Moon, Sun / Mars, Sun / Venus, Moon / Venus, Moon / Mars and Venus / Mars and Venus / Pluto. It`s important in both natal and synatry.

I just had a look at planetary vs. ruler aspects, and to me it seems like both are important: Richard Burton - Liz Taylor:
Sun conjunct Moon Moon opposite Sun Venus sextiel Sun Venus sextile Mars Pluto square Venus his 5th ruler opposite her 7th ruler his 4th ruler square her 7th ruler his 7th ruler squae her 7th ruler his 1st ruler square her 5th ruler Paul - Linda
his Venus opposite her MOon his Mars sextile her Sun his 5th ruler sextile her 1st his 5th ruler conjunct her 4th ruler his 7th ruler trine her 4th ruler his 7th ruler conjunct her 5th ruler Antonio - Melanie
Sun oposite MOon venus conjunct Mars Venus conjunct Pluto 8th ruler conjunct 7th ruler 1st ruler trine 7th ruler Brad - Angelina
Mars square Moon
5th ruler square 1st ruler 4th ruler trine 7th ruler 7th ruler square 1st ruler 1st ruler opposite 5th ruler 8th ruler opposite 7th ruler 4th ruler ocnjunct 1st ruler 4th ruler oposite 5th ruler 4th ruler conjunct 5th ruler Paul - Joanne:
Mars sextile Moon 5th ruler conjunct 1st ruler 4th ruler conjunct 1st ruler 4th ruler sextile 5th ruler Johnny - Vanessa:
Venus sextile Moon Venus opposite Mars Mars trine Sun Mars square Venus 4th ruler square 7th ruler 5th ruler square 4th ruler 7th ruler square 4th ruler 7th ruler square 1st ruler 7th ruler square 5th ruler Hmm, it seems like the challenging and stimulating aspect like opposition, conjunction and square happen more often than the soft ones.
It seems like all the rulers are important. There seems to be very often an aspect between ruler 1 and 4.
