This comment on x-files intrigued me:

http://www.astrology-x-files.com/synastry/mercury.html

quote:
Romantic interest is common. The Mercury person is usually infatuated with the Venus person. In friendships, this is an indication that they have a variety of interests in common.

Synastry Mercury Conjunct Venus.

So I am just wondering if anyone has any comments on this or anecdotes relating to the same.

Sure! With my ex (we were together 14 years), my 8th House Mercury is conjunct his 10th House Leo Venus.

We both had a love-at-first-sight feeling when we met, and we are still very close friends.

It's not just that we share interests (although we do share interests in the arts, music, theater, food, travel, nature, literature, political theory, pop culture, etc)--it's the WAY we like to explore the interests we share that's compatible. If I suggested something spontaneous or trying something new, he was always thrilled to try it and very encouraging. He feels inspired by my ideas.

Then again, it's hard to isolate this aspect because we also have a Sun-Venus conjunction (my 8th house Leo Sun, his 10th house Venus), and are a typical Leo-Libra sun sign couple.

(The relationship ended because of childhood and anger issues that he is coping with.)

Thanks, that helps give this some context.

My Mercury and Venus are close together but I don't know anyone personally who has conjunct placements.

My husband's Mercury is Trine my Mercury/Venus conjunct, I can see what you mean as it makes me think, yes, he is encouraging of my ideas. He is also very tolerant as in many ways his tastes are very different. He is into computers and sci-fi, I like history and literature. If he sees the costume dramas break out he just smiles and goes to his computer desk. I think this kind of aspect is a sweetener for the more challenging synastry aspects and we have some stinkers.
