I have mars in Sag in the 11th, and if this helps, I'm not exactly a social butterfly, but I tend to be very candid and love debating my friends. (I am also very direct and I don't do pleasantries well - it goes against the nature of my sun, however)

My other 11th house planet would be Uranus. With regard to friendships, I make them easily and can break them easily. I seldom feel like I belong in any one group (now uranus explains it), and I am not likely to conform, even though I may be inclined to.. deep inside I become restless and unsettled.

I have not come to the stage where organisations and social issues are part of my sphere, but I can forsee that happening in the future.

Hope that helps.

Uranus in the 11th fits right in, and belongs there under both EQHS and Placidus. Unsual friends, large age gap frienships, friends who reappear in my life after several years, and so on, the 11th working at its most obvious. According to my husband, people living on the margins of society who are in some ways unacceptable.

I learnt using EQHS and the Moon/Pluto always seemed a better fit than in the 10th as it is with Placidus. But not Mars which would be in the 4th. Er, no. Unless that means arguing with my mother. Swings and roundabouts.

According to Bill Herbst in "Houses of the Horoscope" the 11th governs:

Appropriate behaviour
Friendship, social circle
Shared creativity
Receiving love

There's a whole thread on the 11th house and receiving love, see page 3 of my Know Two Are Alike page for links.

I have Jupiter in Aries in the 11th. I have a large group of friends and we always get together to discuss philosophy/politics/religion.

Hi JANE, just a few weeks ago, I had started a thread on the 11th house as well, maybe you wanna have a look: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/018724.html

This was my original post there:

Hi out there,
in several threads I read about the 11th house as an indicator for "receiving love", how a person might receive love, probably. This thought was new to me - I always considered the 11th more as a "friendship house" and attached to matters such as high hopes and idealism.

Did that theory verify in your lives? That the 11th house tells something about how you receive love? How love is given to you from other people? Or what could it mean?

Mine is ruled by Venus (house cusp in Libra), and here are some of my planets/points there:

- Jupiter
- Cupido
- Poseidon
- Fascination
- Toro
- Aphrodite
- Osiris
- Union
- Liebe
- Happiness
- Utopia

All I can say is ... I tend to fall for the "wrong guys". Often the "Macho types" - although quarrels are forseeable. And I often feel disappointed, desillusioned. (I also have Venus square Neptune, though.)

So, what's your 11th house like?

My Moon is in Aquarius in 11th house. My friends are very very important to me. Some friends I value far more than my family - that is, my family I was born into, not my family that I have co-created. And it really fits with being here because of the association with Aquarius and technology and making friends online. I consider my friendships here as close and genuine as with my friends i see face-to-face.

One astro report said that this placement sees all of humanity as their family and that very much rings true for me. I see all people as equal and when I wish well for one person, I wish the same for all.

Since most of my planets are in the 11th house and on the cusp of the 12th I feel like a walking talking paradox. Some planets say I am quiet and reserved and don't like people and the other planets say I am a social butterfly. I don't like having so many planets in one house.

Quoting once more from the excellent book, Houses of the Horoscope by Bill Herbst.

Sorry Bill, I think I got this one in a second-hand store so you aren't getting any revenue from the sale. But the way I keep plugging it, it's got to be giving you some positive vibes somehow somewhere. Anyway, I like your book, a lot, and here is what you say about the 11th house and receiving love:

Jupiter

quote:
Being loved is based on the positive vision of yourself reflected in another's eyes. Primary amongst these is wisdom. When your wisdom is recognised by others, you feel loved.....

Mars

quote:
You want to be loved and you extend yourself to make it possible. ... you feel loved when your suitor acts out your desires, when the behaviours are direct, foreful and ardent. Urgency looks like love to you, as does assertion, and above all, passion...

He also says:

FRIEINDSHIP & SOCIAL CIRCLE~> It's not hard for you to make friends (Jupiter), you're loyal but frienships can bring conflict (Mars).

GROUP PARTICIPATION ~> Groups want you around (Jupiter) you like to get involved with them, but can be over assertive (Mars).

APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR ~> You've got an almost sixth sense that makes you know how to act in social settings (Jupiter), a natural instinct. Social embarrassment is something you find painful. (Mars)

quote:
if anyone criticizes you about a certain behaviour, you will tend to defend yourself very aggressively, sometimes compounding the problem

SHARED CREATIVITY

Mars ~ "Your creative role is to push the group toward new directions and new challenges."

Jupiter ~ "Your creative role is to provide enthusiasm and perspective, to give the group renewed life."

I have the Sun, Pluto, and Venus in the 11th house. I'm always the center of my friends. If the group decides it wants to go out, and that night I change my mind and stay in. The group stays in...

Personally, I don't like that, but I guess it's how the aspect plays out. It's like unquestioned authority? In classes, at work, wherever I am...if there's a GROUP activity, I am always the "captain", "group leader", "spokesperson", etc. Often times, its not self designated.

Sometimes, I'm friends with people solely because they'd rather be my friend than not (I think that's Pluto working).

When I was younger, I attracted very controlling and domineering friends. Ridiculously beautiful, wealthy, cultured yet superficial people who I let control me and manipulate my self-expression (the 5th/11th axis thing, and the Sun).

As I've gotten older, that's manifested to me taking a leadership role amongst my peers, and now to a profound and obsessive preoccupation with politics and the good of society. I have friends in high places (Sun/Pluto?) as well as amongst my peer level.

I too have the horrible battle between being a social butterfly (Sun/Venus) and a complete recluse (Pluto in 11th, Saturn in 12th). I make friends very easily, but I count the ones who are tried and true and have been there to experience me at my worst.

I also live through my hopes and dreams, I so don't live in the present...or the past. I have to work on that constantly. I have Uranus and Neptune in my 1st house, and Jupiter in my 3rd making it more difficult for me to keep myself grounded. With Saturn and Mercury camping out in my 12th, they aren't helping out much either, haha.
