What in the charts tells of your parents and your relationship with them? I looked at this one site and it said that my mom is a character, LOL.

I heard that you can see the qualities of your parents in the fourth (more nurturing parent) and tenth houses (more dominant parent).

To see your relationship with them, look at aspects to your Sun (Father) and the Moon (mother).

Having positive (i.e. conjunction, trine or sextile) between planets and the sun would mean that you probably get along with your father. Just keep in mind that we all have willpower, so environment still plays a role. Also, we come into this world on what we THINK our parents are like. Based on their behavior, they either reinforce our preconceived notions or they change them.

Keeping that in mind, having "easy" aspects between the sun and other planets or the moon and other planets makes it easier for us to get along with our parents.

I've got Sun Opposition Uranus, so I view my father as being unpredictable. I've also got Venus in my fourth house and my father was definitely very charming. My Moon is in Capricorn, which squares Venus in Aries and squares Pluto in Scorpio. Although my mom and I get along with each other overall, we do have some very intense arguments and there is little affection between us.

In addition to what Astra said: Saturn can rule the father, along with the Sun. Placements in Cancer can also represent the family.

Can look at 4th house for Father and 10th house for Mother, to see how you view them in general.

For how you get on, just do a synastry analysis and a composite, or whatever new tool is making the rounds.

If the moon or sun squares another planet, then that will probably add some tension to your relationship, though there is nothing wrong with this and certainly does not indicate bad parents or a bad childhood. Other aspects have to be taken into account.

As astroleolady said Saturn can represent the father as well. Mine is in Scorpio, which can indicate that the father is mysterious in some way. It can indicate distance from the father either through death, separation or he can be emotionally distant. On the positive side it can show a father who teaches his offspring to survive any hardship. In my case, I was separated from my father shortly past my toddler years.

My friend has Sun square Saturn. In her case, her father was gone most of the time since his job required him to travel.

I have moon square venus which generally means that the mother was not very affectionate.

What if something said that one of your parents is a character, what would that make you think? How can you tell closeness in a chart? I feel the same closeness with both of my parents, not really one more than the other.

Well, if your mom is described as being a "character" then I would assume that meant she was possibly feisty, humorous, kind, adventurous and maybe eccentric in a good way.

I'm not sure you can determine closeness from a chart. Maybe in a synastry chart, one of your parents' Sun conjuncts your Moon? Having positive Mercury aspects or having Mercury in compatible signs helps since that eases communication. For instance, Mercury in Scorpio may have trouble communicating with Mercury in Aquarius.

I have Saturn in Cancer if that gives you an example.
