Ah. Scorpio Pallas at 2 degrees 11' 33" is in my 12th house which is ruled by Virgo.

Being in 12th would make sense why I wouldn't see my humour on a conscious level because it is hidden from me. It is 3 degrees away from Asc but this conj is from 12th house so it is not strong, right?

lol. another thing in Scorpio. Wow. Pallas is 6 degrees away from Jupiter. Too wide for me, you? It's 9 degrees away from being square my Moon and MC conj. Also, It's 6.7 ish degrees from being conj my pluto.

what orbs would you use?

I just remembered to say that it came out funny probably because I wrote it and didn't speak it. If I had to tell that story verbally, it would have choked me- and that when I would have said, you had to be there.

Something in speaking verbally restricts me from expressing what on my mind. There's something in me that finds talking so tiresome and unreliable.

I think it might be a problem between Cancer Moon and Libra Mercury. They are square at very loose orbs. I usually get frustrated with having to describe my thoughts. If someone asks me to tell them what happened, verbally it is summarized and technical. Precise too with no emotion to it. If I write something, the words get emotion.

I may find humour in a subject but it's near impossible to share it verbally. That's why I can't tell jokes. I think I digressed and started talking about my thoughts which were never the issue. It was expressing the thoughts that give me trouble.

I LOVE all things funny... with Sag rising and Jupiter in Aries in the 5th house, I can't help it! Combine that with Aquarius on the 3rd and sun opposite Uranus and it becomes obvious that I love unexpected quirky humour that's delivered quickly (I hate jokes that are slow getting to the point). Parodies and impressions are probably my favourite type of humour (I think my Venus in Gemini might have something to do with this - Mr Gem is a natural imitator and he makes me laugh every day), and I love quirky situational stuff like Flight of the Conchords or Curb Your Enthusiasm. Anything that takes the p!ss works for me too. Mr Gem and I were in stitches a couple of years ago creating a p!sstake forum character and then taking the character to the chatroom to ask dumb questions to the site admin... Personally though I don't view myself as funny, because my verbal delivery is rather weak.

I also happen to like humour that's silly and immature. Jason Orange being presented with a giant naan bread "J" on a string necklace, and him cracking up while he talks about varnishing it, is one of the funniest things I've ever seen. That and Borat.

with what you've said jane, what the heck is my problem then? Oh, I remember, I'm just not funny. Ag. I'm not used to being bad at something.

You ARE funny, it's just that you don't see it. There's many things that we don't see in ourselves and only others can see. Maybe this is a 7th house issue. I am sure there are many things for example that people on this forum would be able to tell me about myself that I don't see myself when I write these posts. Ditto reality. Sometimes what we think is ordinary also turns out to be funny. I have similar issues where I might say something and I think nothing of it and others laugh (like the "nature calls" thing that you say - good stuff) because there's a pun or intonation or something that we don't see, a facial expression etc. A lot of it is just heat of the moment as well. As we have seen, humour is a very complicated thing, it's fleeting and it comes at the right time with the right moment with the right people.

quote:
My Venus and Moon are 6 deg square. In fact, my Moon, Venus and Saturn are all square!! I can be very serious, in deed, and can keep my thoughts and emotions in check. I probably wouldn't be a great riding companion for Madonna.

I think it's the wide square that's doing it, it is an expression of your happy and humorous emotions through some level of tension into the Venus which entertains, would you say your humour is avante garde or excessive? Maybe the Jupiter in Gemini allows for verbal humour or expansive delivery.

Great to see you back 23. You've been having a break? Busy?

I went away for a while but I've been on here constantly since getting back You people are keeping me on the net all day!

quote:
Could one say that being funny is a mutable characteristic?

I think mutability allows for flexibility and an ability to morph into a situation so that's how it might help. But yes, wit (Gem) and humour (Sag) are both mutable, but they are naturally associated with 3rd and 9th house respectively - speech and thinking.

quote:
Also, different countries view humour in different ways, eg. New Zealanders tend to find puns (wordplays) in jokes to be funnier than a joke that would, say, poke fun at something.

True, poking fun at something is a very Australian thing to do which overseas people don't seem to get, a lot of it is done for jesting and because we love that person or that thing.

quote:
Yes, I think I do: The clever one (23/JT) really just has a lack of self-awareness, and doesn't see how s/he is ridiculous. But that's exactly what self-deprecating humor shows isn't the case.

I think you're right there

quote:
3-I speak in an accent different from most people's and my accent has a bad reputation to belong to spoilt little rich girls who are coconuts- brown on the outside, white on the inside. Of course, this is nothing like me and what amuses people is how I don't defend the way I speak. The fact that I tell people to kiss my @ss makes them laugh. I don't get that.

See? It's the opposition thing again, it's not necessarily irony but it has the opposition thing again! You're a funny girl, see comments above.

Do you think Pallas has an influence on humor?

That's really interesting, I haven't heard of that one, don't even really know what it is. I did look it up and in my chart it falls in Pisces/12th, 29 degrees. It's anarectic and keeping itself from the world, like Unmoved's. It makes only one aspect to anything important in my chart and that is my Venus which is 26 deg Sag/9th. So I guess the anarectic nature of mine makes it strong. Maybe because it is in Pisces and 12th, it can tap into other dimensions and the subconscious. Maybe my humour operates deeper than I think it would. What do you think?

Something in speaking verbally restricts me from expressing what on my mind. There's something in me that finds talking so tiresome and unreliable.

I think that's Saturn in the 3rd plus the Moon square Mercury that you mentioned.

Oh, I've seen that quirkiness

I'm a confused person. Firstly, I reply to 23 with a question that koi asked and I've been calling swirl-kitt "swirl skirt" all along. Ahaha. No wonder you've been cracking up swirl-kitt.

woops.

koi- I did answer your questions somewhere in here.

swirl-kitt, you put me in the same list as very funny people. Wow. Thanks. that is awesome. Conan makes me laugh just by looking at him. He's great.

swirl - Unmoved is in good company.

I thought of this board recently when watching "Always Sunny." Did you see the episode when the female character (sorry, always forget their names) wanted to have a SATC night out with the girls?

Unmoved - For Pallas and all asteroids I generally don't exceed a 3º orb, but that's just based on my own observations of what appears to have an impact. So I would consider it cnj your Asc. I wouldn't expect you to feel the cnj with Jupiter, unless there was a middle linking planet between the two.

Pallas, on its own, is about pattern recognition. How that ability is then used probably depends on the rest of the chart and the aspects Pallas receives. If your chart points towards writing talent, for example, then a strong Pallas would give you a firm grasp on patterns in writing. You would just sense what a story needs at a certain moment because the pattern would be so obvious to you.

I think Pallas cnj your Asc makes it very strongly placed, and I would be surprised if you didn't feel its influence. From what I've seen, it is often prominently placed in the charts of creative people, so if you don't think it's working for you comically, it probably comes into play for you in other ways.

Also, you mentioned that sometimes you don't see the joke because you're thinking too much. Pallas could be contributing to that, especially since the cnj is in Sco. That must make it hard to stay on the surface and see the appearance part of humor, and humor is often a contrast between what's on the surface and what's underneath it.

Jane- No I haven't seen that episode yet Unless it's the IT crowd you mention- where the main character Jen and the boys hang out in her house watching girly movies in bathrobes and then go out to have a 'girls night out'

Unmoved- I was hoping you'd never realize lol ! It was funnier that way ! Still laughing

I think humor is based on recognizing patterns, and then unexpectedly breaking with that pattern, sort of teasing the pattern.

Correctamente.
I have noticed that funny is funny because of the element of surprise, the effect of opposite expectations. You may have a good set-up, but if the punchline is bad the joke will flop.

Yeah Deuxantares. You got Sun ruling third placed in Scorpio while I got Mars ruling 3rd placed in Scorpio.

What is the Sun/Mars difference here? How do they function?

Hi Deuxantares,

I was referring mainly to my inventiveness. I'm reluctant to put any material on You Tube because years ago I entered a comedy contest without realizing the judges were comedy show writers apparently looking for material.
I'll have to wait until I've completed my current job before venturing back out. I'd like to make key connections first before just sending material and hoping people are honest.
Thanks for asking.

Hi Deuxantares,

To answer your question about my favorite comedians, it's no contest. Because I'm a Leo, I'd have to say just myself.

I'm kidding, of course. All-time greats such as George Carlin are really a respectable tie for second place.

If you'll read someone's Lindaland thread on astrological humor, you'll note that Leos just can't over-emphasize how fantastic they are!

Seriously, I really enjoyed George Carlin, but just on TV. I saw Richard Jeni & Dennis Wolfberg live and also found them to be excellent.

I especially get a bang out of Saturday Night Live commercials, including the one where Chris Farley is told his coffee has been switched. I don't always like raucous comedy but he was hilarious!
