WELL... I'm just wondering if there are any common placements or aspects for the tendency to multi-task, and/or what I call the 'magpie' approach to hobbies and interests. ie taking an interest in various bits of pieces of a subject or hobby, before then becoming interested in something else. Just picking out bits and pieces. I ask because I tend to do this a lot!

Firstly, I'm a good multi-tasker and this works out very well in practical ways. But in terms of personal interests, I never seem to fully dedicate myself to one thing. I usually have several interests at once and it usually involves me taking an interest bit by bit in each thing. An example of this would be the fact that I am currently reading four books. Am I reading them one at a time beginning to end? No! A chapter here and there in the Marc Bolan book, a few chapters of Louise Hay, random pages of the Angel Bible, and random leafing through a book about finding balance in your life. Why do I do this? It's not that my interest level waxes and wanes - I don't have a low attention span - it seems to be more that I have a high interest level in EVERYTHING and I want to take it ALL in. Apart from just reading books, I've been taking an interest in/practising affirmations, meditation, astrology of course, astral-related stuff, spirit experiences, developing psychically, reiki, and a bit of automatic writing among other things. Yes I am actually DOING all of these but not dedicating myself fully to any one thing. I just happen to be so interested in everything that I must DO all of it. I admit that I have a bit of impatience/over-excitedness about doing things!

So... what are the likely placements and aspects do you think that would contribute to this?

Possible culprits:
* Sag rising (love learning things) with chart ruler in Aries in 5th (love doing things and doing them now! Jupiter= expansion, so maybe that's why I'm always interested in a LOT of things at once)
* Venus in Gemini (multiple interests)
* Aquarius on 3rd and Mercury opposite Uranus? There could maybe be a random unconventional pattern to my thought processes?

What do you think? Any experiences of your own with this tendency?

True enough! Are you a Gemini? (Edit - I just saw your signature, and you are indeed a Gem!). My only Gemini placement is Venus - which doesn't seem like a strong enough placement to me to have such an effect. Then again Venus is the ruler of my sun and Mercury (both in Taurus) and my Venus and Mercury are in mutual reception (ie Venus in Gemini, Mercury in Taurus)... I think they may also be conjunct but it would be 10 degrees if so, so I don't think that really counts...

Even with four books out and so many things I want to do (my latest idea is to keep a journal of my psychic experiences, plus there are children's stories I have in mind to write), I still keep going back to the library to see if there's anything else.

Funny that, I too keep looking for more stuff, even thought I've got my hands MORE than full, heheh..

I also think you have a point there about the stronger influence because Venus is your chart ruler.
Personally I believe all isolated placements are greatly modified by the picture as a whole, which is not a very uncommon view of astrology I understand. I'm thinking expecially of my own Moon-Venus mutual reception as a great example of this, and my own expereience with that has also led me to pay more and more attention to how everything plays together to form the full and unique picture
Wow, that was more of a rant than I had planned for, heheh..

I agree. I think that's a Gemini thing. I've got a sun, moon, mercury, venus stellium there, and I'm an avid partaker in scattering energies. It might be something common to all mutable signs, but I think gemini scatters the fastest. And like you said, Gemlover, it's not because I get bored of the first book, I just realize that the other book I have lying upstairs on my bed is even more interesting! although theres no guarentee that when I pick it up I wont change my mind altogether and remember a song I've been dying to hear...

I actually try really hard to keep my flakyness to a minimum. It means alot to me when I see a plan through to it's end, and I think it's really important for me to develop that.

I do that too. I'm reading several books right now :X

I'm thinking it's my Mars in Sagittarius, with my Sun and Chart ruler in my 9th (I'm Gemini rising too, so that can add to the varying interests).

Sounds like me..I can't stick to one task or interest at a time, and I usually have more than 5 webpages up at one time, and they usually have nothing to do with each other..

Mercury and Moon in Sag..Chiron in Gemini, if that matters.

Capricorn sun / Scorpio rising / Sagittarius moon

Mercury:: Sagittarius
Venus::Scorpio
Mars::Pisces

Sun, venus mercury in gemini here. I think mercury in gemini is the biggest culprit. My husband has venus and mars in gemini and while is has a short-attention span at times, he is never scattered (fixed mercury).

Everyone I know who does that is an aries, I call it getting on a kick about something. By the time the person is half way done with the project they have quit, and go on to something else.

I am the opposite, I will finish something come hell or high water, at any price, which is probably worse. When all of our family and friends told us our house would never get finished because we moved in when it was not done, I have pushed my husband and myself to finish it. Of course it took two years and I got a second job, but all we need is baseboard in the house and it is done!

Ten things on the go at once and I always start with good intentions.

Something new grabs my attention and so it’s out with old and in with the new.

I’m amazed at myself if I see something through to completion.

Yes, it does drive me nuts.

Aries rising
Mercury in Gemini.

Hi Gem Lover,

I'm a Multitaker - I have well over a hundred books in my bookcase & most of them are half read. I pick up a book before I finish another one. I've been attuned to & studied Reiki (Usui & Kundalini), Shamballa multidimentional healing, Huna healing, trained with the NFSH, studied palmistry, reflexology, trained in mediumship, psychometry, clairvoyance. Earned money as a tarot reader & clairvoyant. My jobs have been very varied also...

Some of my placements are similar to yours

Sag rising
Mars in Sag
Venus In Aqu 3rd house
Asteroid Reiki conj Chart ruler Jupiter in Tau 6th house - Healing intrests & energy focus.

So the general consensus seems to be that it's a Gemini trait... and Sagittarius to an extent as well?

Interesting because Mr Gem, being a Gemini stellium with Aries rising and moon, is nowhere NEAR as much of a multitasker as me. It's more like when he gets a hobby or an interest, that ONE thing takes up all of his attention and he really focuses on it for a long time. Each thing turns out to be a phase, but a very focused and often long-term phase. So that seems to go against the grain of the Gemini/Aries having a low attention span. lol

Deliverance, I don't have my chart in front of me but as I recall I have an interesting Reiki placement too!

This is all very interesting - thanks for the replies so far!
