My Sun is in the 11H according to Placidus which i normally use seen as it is the default house system at astro.com. But between these different systems my Sun is either in the 10TH or 11TH.Placius 11H Koch 10H Equal 10H Which do i believe? Well i do feel that Sun in the 10H does fit me more. IP: Logged |

Oh you`ve just opened the box of Pandora. Now all astrologers here will start tearing each other apart, to justify their personal favourite system, which is of course the only one that works. I`ve been using Placidus, as it gives me the best results. But I do see the beauty of the equal system, too. Kick it and Lara will definitely tell you in a couple of minutes that htis is the ONLY one that really works.
WEll, for me, it`s either Placidus or equal; I`m pretty torn between those two systems; but I agree that Placidus has a serious flaw which it shares with Koch and all other systems, in which MC is cusp of the 10th house and ASC cusp of the 1st hosue. They all fail in Northern regions; there are times when the MC will be the same as the ASC in the North; what houses do you use there? On the other hand I once did a natal chart, focusing on the houses, with a friend, whom I had JUST met, and didn`t know too much about. I made the natal interpretations, one using Placidus, one using Equal. I was CERTAIN she would say the Equal one fit her better, as her ASC is 15° Cancer and her IC is 14° Leo, those small houses looked so ridiculous to me! However she said the other chart (the one using Placidus fit her better). It`s hard sometimes to decide. I definitely identify with my Moon in 2nd house as ruler of 8th house in Placidus. There is definitely a 2nd house - 8th house theme in my life. But then again if I set up my chart with Equal, Venus conjuncts 2nd house cusp and squares Pluto. Also, Pluto in 10th? Or Pluto in 11th? Both makes sense to me. It`s really tough. IP: Logged |

Well, if you still believe in equal, then your Neptune is in 8th house. IP: Logged |

It`s funny; I once did a little research on houseruler aspects in synastry, and I found that there was almost always an aspect between ruler of 7th house or DC and IC or 4th house or even the 4th house ruler aspecting each other or IC.I used Placidus for that reasearch, but funny though, it worked with equal, too. lol IP: Logged |

I have always used Placidus house system, and I have been very accurate with it.However, I have been having doubts about the house systems...especially when they were based on errors. Since my studies in Cosmobiology, I wonder do we even need house systems. The cosmobiologists do fine without house systems. I think that it has to do with their focus on midpoints. For them, they give more information. For us,it's the houses and signs. I also believe that with a combination of house system, zodiac sign, and midpoints, you can find out major themes in a chart. It doesn't have be either or. the oldest house system is the whole sign house system which most vedic astrologers as well as classical astrologers use. They use whole sign aspects which don't work with the outerplanets. there are over 10 house systems to choose from too. I knew astrologers that use Campanus. I read that Jeffrey Wolf Green uses Porphyry. The Uranian Astrologers have their own special house systems.
also without a birthtime, you can use solar houses...with Sun as the Ascendant. Vedic Astrologers use the Moon as the Ascendant too. I wonder if that could work in Western Astrology....like how the planets affect us from an emotional perspective.

I started using the Koch house system, but I alternate, especially with transits. I use the equal house system with transits, that way its far easier to tell what house your transiting planet is in. I like the theory of the whole house system, because it places my sun and mercury in the 9th house instead of the 8th, which may have some more validity for me.------------------ Sun - Leo Moon - Pisces Ascendant - Sagittarius IP: Logged |
