This is something that I am interested in for a few reasons. The biggest one being that the idea of traditional marriages scare the crap out of me. Anyone have any info on this?

It's called handfasting, rather than fastening, and it is a Pagan marriage ritual. Depending on the officiant, it may be legally binding or not. Generally it should not be performed unless you two have been together for at least a year and a day. It is most often performed by a Pagan (Druid or Witch) high priest or priestess. If you search "handfasting" in Google, you can read different ceremonies. I have been to several handfastings (I am Wiccan). Sometimes, the couple is completely nude, even if their guests are not. Sometimes, all the guests are nude. Often it is done in the woods or a Nature setting, yet that is not a requirement (it's just nicer, I think). Handfastings are lovely, you should definitely explore it

Bright Blessings,
Carlo

Joga,

Since I belong to no particular religion, my wedding was done by a real minister from a metaphysical church. It included some traditional Christian phrases and readings, but I also asked for some earth religion input (carefully veiled for my new, very Catholic mother in law). We had it outside, on a deck of a ski lodge in October when the leaves were peaking. This minister is also a high priestess of an open circle given at the church, and she is also a medium. Everyone liked the non-typical ceremony, which included blessings from the 4 directions, and only 1 person asked about the "weird" stuff. Incedentaly, he's a Born Again Christian!! I told him it was Native American honoring my Lenape ancestry. I didn't want to open a can of worms about my being a "heathen"!

Hope this helped a little!

Katee

PS My husband didn't really notice any of the stuff the minister said. I don't think he's really into what I'm into. We are very different people though. And I love him like a brother but, well, now I'm getting into a whole new thread!

Hi Rainbow,

I know, I know, I answered your Lindaland thread! Of course I remember! All the time we spent in the hot tub, remember?

I wanted to ask you about reprinting your poem about all the knowflakes, I love it! I would put it here:
http://lovestarz.com/zodiacmusings.html

Yet I am not sure under which sign. You're still a Cappy, right? maybe there, if I get your permission. I put a poem under Virgo that druid did for my birthday, she is a Cappy too. Anyways, if you are not gonna be around here, write me:

moonmaster@easyriders.com

we'll chat I am happy to see you're still around too I talk to Seamistress all the time, we never fell out of touch. She's the only original Knowflake I still talk privately with, other than another girl who you prolly don't remember, who was there a short time, before you arrived.

So it' so nice to see you again Rainbow, I still remember when you first showed up! We had so much fun write to me so we can discuss your poem

Bright Blessings,
Carlo

handfasting!
Here are a few sites you might find helpful http://www.handfasting.com/ http://www.earth-dancing.com/handfasting.htm http://www.handfasting.info/

The first one is *extra* helpful and really nicely done!

Rainbow!

I haven't been able to spend much time on the boards over the past week and I just caught some of your messages on other topics...

All I have to say is: You better not leave!

Did you get my email?? I never got a reply but I want you to know that I will be very sad if you don't continue to post. All in all, I think your effort to help expose negativity was very caring toward LL, and as a protective gesture I found it very sincere. Obviously, some things are beyond one's control and you can't drain yourself over it, but it seems like things are looking up with the whole situation and hopefully everyone has found a renewed responsibility to keep the light strong and bright here... I know I have! Hopefully any deception will cease... I know it will.

Anyway, I hope you do write me back as I'd love to hear from you. Also, I still look forward to your amazing sense of humor and positivity posted around the topics here.

Carlo....how nice to be remembered....and in such a nice way too....the hot tub? Oh yes, I remember well ...

...and I also remember that you had a thang for that cute little Barrymore actress (and I don't mean Ethel)

Hey Carlo...of course you can reprint my poem...I am honored.......and it's so nice to know that you're still in touch with Seamistress and druid.....I didn't get to know Seamistress that well (except that I do remember that she was from "down under")......and sweet, sweet druid was very special to me....I'll never forget that she sent me VENUS TRINES AT MIDNIGHT...I was so thrilled....

I'm gonna email ya, later...Okay?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Bissie......glad I crack you up, girl....

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Joga.....thanx....(I'll bet you just like to hear me jingling when I come in, huh?)

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Pearly........bless your heart....you can't begin to know how much your support means to me....other friends pointed out that I looked ridicules and advised me to cool it...but I KNOW what I KNOW and I stand by my convictions...Now I'll leave it at that...*sigh*......but maybe you can see now why your words, were like a balm for my soul...thank you again....here is something just for you....

...and fyi I was not really asked to leave....Randall and Aurial were pretty patient with me....I made that decision on my own (but look at me....here I am!)

anyway,

luv you guys,
Rainbow~

Ah yes, Rainbow, sending copies of Venus Trines, I remember that. We each used to order a few copies at a time, then give them out to friends :^) Although I haven't heard from druid in years. She was great, I do miss her. I still have her email addy if you want to try to kick out a shout. I think I wrote her a few months ago and got no reply. Perhaps she doesn't use that addy anymore, though it was a cool one :^) it's a hotmail addy and she lived in the UAE at the time. Maybe she moved when she graduated college. She was just brilliant, a lexigramming queen, and a dear girl, I miss her a lot...

Ah, yes Miss Barrymore. I am so glad I can call her that again. She and I live in the same city now, I think she actually lives in my neighborhood. Yep, I live in Hollywood now, I love it! I see stars all the time. I am always telling Seamistress about it, who I spot. David Schwimmer (sp?) came into where I work last night. Claire Danes comes in a lot, and Kathy Bates is a regular. Winona, Tori Spelling, Seth Green, Nathan Lane. Yet the elegant Pisces Queen Miss B. still puzzles me. I am just so happy she is splitting from that second husband of hers. What a joke that was. Anyone who can lose Drew Barrymore has got serious issues! That's a girl you love and make happy or die trying! Yet you always knew I was nuts about her...too bad she wasted those precious months of her life with him...someone should do their synastry here. I'll never forget watching Saturday Night Live when he was host, and she was there in the audience, looking all the hotty she is, and they announced they would be wed at the end of the show. I almost fell out of my bed. I began praying for it not to happen, that she should wait for me, I'll pack up my game and head out West, Drew, just be patient! Then, at the end of the show while he was in a tux with the other cast members dressed up...Drew did not show. I breathed a sigh of relief, and knew right then...if she does eventually do it, it will end, no question, just by that one action of not showing up at the end after agreeing at the beginning, whether it was in the show's script or not, it was a jinx. He was all screaming for her in his tux, acting angry that she blew him off. I laughed my ass off, and knew that it would never last. And I heard that he filed for divorce, not her. So you know she prolly used that Water o' hers to drip-drip-drip on his skull, and it drove him away...anyway, that's my guess. I bet there's some answers in their synastry. I haven't seen her yet, though I am sure I will. And you know why she had such chemistry with Sandler in The Wedding Singer? Virgo/Pisces polarity. He was born 12 days after me, a Virgo with a Cancer Moon. That polarity came to life in that movie, and that's where the special chemistry came from, least that's what I think.

Do you remember the thread on celebrity astrology at the other site? That was Seamistress' thread, she was so into that. She was just a kid then, like 15! She did such a good job. I still have her myth retellings up at my site, they rock:

http://lovestarz.com/biblioteca.html

you'll see it on that page. She is in college now, which is prolly why we don't see her much. She always embodied to me the higher octave of Scorpio, she is truly an Eagle and I love her to pieces. Do you know that it's Spring over there now, in Down Underland? Isn't that funny And it's Fall here lol

So your super-Scorpio granddaughter looks big, is she about four or five now? Such a great age

Please email me at moonmaster@easyiders.com, so I have your email addy, I want to go over the poem too and send you your Cappy sistah druid's addy :^)

It is so nice to see you again Rainbow!!!

Bright Blessings,
Carlo

this morning, Th Oct 10, 2002, LA Times...

Shedding Light on Pagan Rituals

Dear Abby,

I agree with your response to "Be-witched in Sacramento" - up to a point. As a witch and pagan priestess for more than 30 years, I can tell you that ceremonies such as handfastings (our term for a wedding) are not required to be held at midnight and that the parents of the bride and groom, if they're open-minded enough to attend, are usually honored.

It isn't customary to involve cowan (nonmembers) in ritual planning. The bride's family should not feel hurt by her failure to include them. Our customs are different from those of the greater community, and I don't blame any couple who prefer to just do it themselves rather than explain - over and over - what they're doing and why they're doing it that way. It can be very draining.

But most couples, if they choose to have guests at all, have their handfasting at a time when those guests can attend. The couple's decision to be handfasted on the Full Moon is particularly blessed and by our lights very romantic. However, if I were the priestess counseling them to move up the ceremony, I'd advise them to move up the ceremony a few hours and make sure that the family member feel warmly welcomed.

It takes a lot of love for a christian to attend a pagan ceremony. It should be honored and appreciated.

I must tell you I take deep issue with your denigrating comment, "I have no idea how serious her interest in witchcraft is or how long it will last..." You imply that witchcraft is something the sister is likely to get over.

That's what my family thought in 1970. You don't question the commitment of people married by Jewish, Christian or Buddist, etc. rites. It is inappropriate to question that of a pagan.

Thank you and blessed be,

Dana Corby, HPS
Tacoma, Washington

***

I think most non-pagans can really dig the handfasting rites as they are practiced in North America. It's just about being okay with those words, ie pagan, witch, etc. It's so fun to have your hands tied to your new spouse and jump over a broom together I would say on a Full Moon in Libra would be so lovely oh, and HPS stands for high priestess...HP is high priest

Amor Vincit Omnia! To the Gods!

Be Blessed,

Carlo

Hi Joga,

Yes, the choice of officiant is very important. You might attend some open circles held by local Pagan groups to get a good feeling for the high priestess. Also, look into your local Unitarian Universalist church. They are fabulous, and the only major denomination to include the wisdom of Earth religions in their national charter. Many UU churchs have CUUPS chapters, Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. Often the women who run the CUUPS groups are Pagan and may be registered to perform legal unions. Plus you get to use the church, which can help with relatives and their acceptance of the union. Also visit your local witch shop to get a list of local Pagan groups, and get in touch, maybe go to an open circle this Samhain (Halloween) or Yule (Christmas). Often, local UU churches will allow local Pagan goups to do events at the church, like handfastings.

Awwww Rainbow, she is sooo cute!!! What a little Eagle in the making How proud you must be!! I am so glad you posted her pic. doesn' she have about six planets in Scorpio? she is so cute

Bright Blessings,
Carlo
