dear all,

i just found out that between my chart and my partner's, we share 2 grand trines, in air and fire. what kind of significance do you think this has? i've been searching around but haven't found much on the grand trine in synastry.

here's what we have:

1. his moon in gemini trines my uranus & AC in libra trine my venus in aquarius
2. his jupiter in leo trines my moon in sagittarius trine my mercury in aries
3. my venus in aqua trines his moon in gem trine his pluto in libra
4. my merc in aries trines his jupiter in leo trine his neptune in sag

another thing that may not be significant since it's not in orb is that i have by sign a grand trine in earth...mars in cap, saturn in taurus, and pluto in virgo. his only earth is virgo...sun, mercury, and saturn. might this be important?

thanks guys,
chrissy

a g -

hey there, a grand trine is like, ok, i have venus in aquarius, an air sign, and my ascendant is in libra, air also. and he, he has his moon is in gemini, a sign i do not have in my main chart (i think my juno is in gemini, but that doesn't really count - just count sun through pluto and include the AC, i think that's a good rule of thumb). so my 2 air signs are completed by his 3rd air, making what they call a 'grand trine' (and this particular GT is in orb, which should make it more powerful; the GT we have in fire is not quite in orb). a grand trine is, in essence, just the 3 signs of any of the elements: air (aqua, lib, gem), fire (sag, leo, aries) - you get the pic.

hope that helps!

Grand trines in a natal chart are sometimes lazy configurations,a dn they are even weaker in composite. It's beteter if one person has a grand trine in their chart and the partner has a planet that forms a composite kite - that way the trine has direction, impetus and focus.

Without deliberate focus the energy adn strength of a grand trine just goes aroudn and around without being very productive. It's a very harmonius configurations, true, so it favors relationshisp that way, but if the person(s) aren't careful, they will wallow if comfy nonproductive habits and never tap into that gradn trine's potential.

It takes effort or other very strong, defining aspects to make a grand trine active. In my chart, the Mercury/Sun point of the trine is also the apex of a T-square, making that a strong point of focus and giving my grand trine more direction and specific point of expression.

In you and your partner's case, I think the air grand trine has more potential to be expressed and be productive than the fire one, simply because one of hte points falls on your ASC.

well, thank you, gn, that clarifies things for me. and you're right, i believe the air trine is probably stronger, it certainly feels that way, and it's within orb, whereas the fire trine is looser, like by 10° or 12° or something.

so one thing in astrology that im completely backward about still is shapes, and aspects like t-squares or kites, stuff like that. i know particular aspects are involved. obv., a grand trine is pretty easy to understand. but what do i need to look for (which aspects) with a kite configuration? see, im good at spotting aspects singularly and all that junk, but putting it together is a little harder for me, still.

i forgot to add i actually do have a grand trine in my chart, but only by sign. not by orb. it's my mars which is cap 4°, saturn which is taurus 18°, and pluto which is virgo 28°. hrmph. i guess since it's not in orb it's not as big of a deal as it would be if it was.

ok, i sort of found the answer to my question...if i count the earth grand trine in my chart even though it is not in orb, which again is:

mars - cap
saturn - taurus
pluto - virgo

and i learned this (for others who may not know):

"The kite consists of a grand trine one of whose three planets is in opposition to a fourth, which sextiles the other two. This fourth planet serves as an avenue for the expression of the grand trine's creative potential in the outer world; and the configuration thus is conducive to greater success."

so, in keeping with that, my partner has:

venus - scorpio
mars - scorpio
uranus - scorpio

all of which are in opposition to my saturn in taurus, well, except for mars, that's not in orb.

so, i guess we do have SORT OF a loose kite configuration going on...

thanx,
c

Does the North Node count when checking for a trine in a natal chart? (strength is probably lessened I'm guessing.)

Virgo Sun
Capricorn Jupiter
Taurus North Node.

hey there wf,

i think you could prolly count the nn/sn if you wanted to...you could count anything, really. but the one thing to remember is that the north node is a theoretical point, not a planetary body. so it doesnt exchange energy with other bodies/points/angles - it just receives energy. like, natally, your sun conjunct your nn would not affect your sun. it would only affect the expression of your nn.

hope that helps!

thanks Chrissy.

I've been a little sketchy on nodes lately.

For whatever it's worth, I'm very confidant of the NN's role in relationships.

Oh your opinions with nodes in relationships.

Would NN be more important because of the future implication over the SN's past?

To me, it's not really something I've researched indepth. More out of what I've learned here. But from personal experience, it seems those astrological indicators are important to any type of "third party/entity", such as a relationship. I mean, it's really that simple in me mind ...
