I have come to the conclusion that my character traits & personality matches up to my rising sign. I'm scorpio and I don't have any of those scorpio traits whatsoever. Personally, I think one's personality ultimately depends on your parents and grandparents, if even it goes back into the history of your family. Both my parents are Libra and I'm currently living with my grandmother who's Gemini. I have dated Cancer & Pisces guys, but I find myself getting bored really quickly with them and they annoy me more than anything else (no offence). I have dated some gemini guys whom I've really enjoyed being with, hence their social and fun nature. Everyone says that I am a younger version of my grandmother. I'm very straight forward, almost to the point where I offend people and hurt them. I am very free spirited and like I said, I get bored easily... In any relationship really. I would want a guy and as soon as I have him, I want OUT of the relationship...when he's gone, I miss him again. My gran did this and I know some gemini people like playing mind games, so do I..* I have seen sooo many scorpio girls (proper, on their places, soft natured, very quiet and shy, etc), I am not that, except I am on my place and I do tend to walk with my nose up in the air sometimes. I wasn't like this as a little girl, except for being quite a little bully toward my friends (laughs). My theory is basically that, your personality in my opinion is based on that of your family. It's got to do with genetics. Some people do match their sun sign, but I beg to differ.* IP: Logged |

Basic personality structure in my opinion is... Genetics ---> Astrology ---> Environment ---> Choicepre-birth---------->birth--------->post-birth--------->final ------------------ Leo Sun, Scorpio Moon, Aquarius ASC, Year of the Earth Snake "The Manticore is a mythological creature that is half-lion and half-scorpion."

I've never thought personality is based solely, or even mostly, on one's Sun sign. I never thought I fit into the description of a Capricorn. However, the combination of my Moon & Rising describe me perfectly. My Mercury, Venus, and Mars further my personality description to a T. I've always kinda thought that astrology and genetics played the same role..but of course your family, how you are raised, and environmental influences shape who you are. I know two men born on the exact same day. One is an ambitious banker. The other is in prison for violent crime. I love them both; they're fun and interesting people but obviously their nuturing was WAY different, as well as the areas they grew up in, and many other factors...so they lead totally different lives. Nature/Nuture (and astrology) is not black and white and not a matter of either/or. It all works together to make you who you are. IP: Logged |

I agree with everyone that has previously posted. It's a multitude of situations you have to take into account. Take me, a Leo sun, Aries moon, Sagittarius rising. From these placements alone someone expects me to be bad @ss and loud, egotistical and crazy (though I am crazy). But, from growing up with a group of batcrap nutty and water mutuable signs, this is not so. I'm very very quiet and not so much into myself. Had I been raised differently, I may still have the same base personality, but other aspects would be more encouraged and nurtured, and thus I would express myself in a completely different way.And also as something extra...I have noticed Gemini men and Scorpio women going for each other like crazy. Scorpio women in general go for Mercurial/Uranian types more than their watery kin. I honestly feel like I am a mix of my Moon/Rising/Sun rather than not feeling like my Sun. Because I do see myself as a Leo, an atypical one, but a Leo nonetheless, but with Aries reactions and a Sagittarian outloook. Also, look at what house your Sun and other inner planets occupy. This will color the way you act a great deal, up there with your Ascendant and Moon. IP: Logged |

I do believe that astrology gives insights into the personality. However, it is far from being the only factor. Environment, personal experiences, culture, and upbringing are all important. Myers-Briggs and the enneagram can also add insight. I really don't see genetics as being involved in personality as much as other things. I would say that experiences, upbringing, culture, and environment are far more important. Not that genetics are unimportant, just not as much with personality as with other things like health, appearance, etc. I would say, too, that once people get to a certain age, they themselves have to take responsibility for their own path and personality. On top of that, on the astrology side, you can't just look at the sun. There are many other planets and placements to be considered. If you don't believe in astrology, well, you probably won't like most of this site.

I cannot argue with any of these statements. It all makes perfect sence. Scarecrow, true story. Gemini guys do go for scorpio girls and vice versa. I don't know what it is, but Gemini's just have this magnetism about them and mostly I'm attracted to them, hence their looks. All the gemini guys I've dated are attractive..* :P I agree that one's culture, upbringing, environment, etc, influences one's personality...buuut, there are little things I've noticed that my dad or grandmother will do and then I find myself doing the exact same thing...which is kinda weird. I love astrology and it's interesting, I just don't agree that the sun sign is based on one's personality. Though you are born under a specific sign, like the other people also said, your moon sign, rising sign, etc.can have a bigger influence on your personality. I appreciate your posts and sharing your opinions.* IP: Logged |

I believe both culture, environment AND birth chart determine one's personality. Genetics to a lesser degree (for instance, schizophrenia may run in one's family, but issue around mental health would also likely be denoted in one's chart).IP: Logged |

I think your family does have a huge influence on your personality and the likes.... Iam alot like my dad, minus the being frugal part lol his pisces moon trines my cancer moon. We like to daydream and talk about a hypothetical future alot. He is a true romantic and a total sap for love songs and stuff. My spending habbits are def influenced by my mother lol... We always have fun shopping sprees. But i personally think, personality wise we are very different. I think its due to the Sag/leo influence in her that makes us clash alot. her virgo smoothes out our differences tho. Since her sun in virgo trines my Asc in taurus. My gran, is a true classic virgo if i could only wrestle her birth year and time out of her... I would suspect that she is a double if not tripple virgo. She is harsh and pretty much a dictator lol but since iam her favorite grandchild (and she makes no apologies for it) she is softer on me than everyone else. They all get whippings of that critical virgo tongue. Ouch!! At my worst iam like my grandmother and at my best iam a balanced combo of my mom/dad influence. IP: Logged |

To add my two cents to the conversation. My Personality is very much Sagittarian; idelaistic, unrealistic, easily-bored, conversational, daydreamer, impractical, moody, temperemental, dislikes reposnibility etc. This is very much the legacy I leave behind and it touches evrything I do. Jupiter rules expansion and so I am drawn to things that seem to have no boundaries or are constantly evolving. This is in sharp contrast with Saturn; wanting to simplify, manage, compartmentalize everything. When I am thinking "out of the box", I find that my sagittarian qualities are that much more apparent. Sagittarius energy is not good at explaining things in detail convincingly though; as passion and excitement(together with exaggeration) makes other people look at us and go ....huh? But, at the same instance, I do think that family has influenced my personality. That is where the Asc comes in. I can't come in being "expansive, impractical" and "growth" oriented as my parents, both quite conservative, have always expected me to be "responsible" and act like the eldest. This is where my Asc in Taurus comes in; Taurus is in the area of Sag that rules the physical body and well-being. I look extremely Taurean physically; thick lips, melodic voice(or atleast I've been told) and a general "down to earth" appearance. In order to relate to my parents(and consequently to other people) well I had to be the subservient, meek, agreeable child who is reponsible, dedicated and capable. My moon sign is in Cancer. Cancer falls in the 8th house of inheritance, other people's resources and sexuality.
I've always felt that I had to be careful about whom I share my deepes feeling with; like I was prohibited to even dispaly them. I never got "i love you" from my parents and even something as plain as a hug was never habitual. As a result, I've been extremely protective of my feelings; careful t attach myself to anyone and treating relationships like I am a "caretaker"; only a temporary lover. I think that getting in touch with how I feel and being transparent could transform me as a human being(8th) and offer me a differing perspective on life. These above positions are subtle in my nature. The stamp of approval, the prevailing nature is always my Sun. IP: Logged |

Great responses, all.I think house placements have really shaped my personality. I have Sun, Merc & Venus in the 7th and even though I'm sensitive, opinionated, and sometimes downright bossy, I'm still a people-pleaser at the end of the day. I am always counseling people, looking to "relate" and be "relatable" to everyone I come across. Very 7th house. ------------------ Sagittarius Rising Cancer Sun Aries Moon 7th House conjunction with Sun, Mercury, & Venus in Cancer opposing Jupiter & Neptune in the 1st House IP: Logged | |
