I am a pisces sun, gemini moon, leo ascendant...aquarius venus...I'm water and air mostly, a bit of fire, and not much earth at all. What I'm wondering is how important you guys think astrological compatibility is in the long run? I have always dated and been attracted to a variety of signs (though I have always noticed other similarities that connect these guys), and I always like to look at people's birth charts, maybe more out of curiosity than anything else. I guess I've never dated anyone that seemed to be totally opposite of my placements, and I have a decent range of signs so there is always something to base some sort of compatibility on. I guess I'm wondering about those that seem to have low compatibility (on paper) that still have great chemistry and/or great relationships. Thanks for your insights in advance!

I am of the belief that we can progress past the traits of what's inscribed on our charts if we work hard enough. Or at least past certain patterns that are listed there.

Idk, I'm currently dating someone whose chart is not wholly compatible with mine, not even in Vedic or Chinese astrology, numerology, whatevs. It's a very painful relationship, and for whatever reason, I'm still fully drawn into this guy.

Do you only date people you have compatibility with? Do you date people by the chemistry you feel when around them?

I don't based on compatibility, I definitely date based on the energy I feel from each person, and look at their charts more in retrospect. And looking back, for the most part there is compatibility. I will say, though, that the guy that I felt the most intense chemistry with was someone that I was barely compatible with when I calculated in vedic and a couple other types (although we were somewhat compatible just based on astrology). I guess I'm wondering if compatibility really needs to be considered good, in the technical sense, or can great chemistry take so-so compatibility farther?

Synastry can show compatibility or the lack of it, for better and worse. I said "for better and worse", since it just shows how energy flows between two people, so for example, if two people both manifests their charts negatively, then their great compatibility only contributes to negative energy flowing nicely between them (imagine synastry between a serial killer and a victim!).

For acessing how the relationship can be, composites would be better. Pay attention not only to aspects between the elements, but also aspects to/between their midpoints. For example, Mars/Venus midpoint conjunct Sun can show that the relationship center (Sun) is a loving and passionate/romantic one. Sun/Moon midpoint conjunct/square/oppose Venus/Mars midpoint can also show that.
In composites, I use Sun as the center of relationship core, while I see Moon as the woman in the couple and Saturn the man.
