It is totally independent project of my own (I am already sooo into the work that needs to be done that I will probably have very late evening/early morning - matter of perception hehe).

The only connection I can see is that I was in charge of the marketing in the local branch of the company and will be in charge of the marketing and everithing else of my project. Well pretty thin line actually.

Anyway, that man is one I respect and admire and enjoy being thought well of in return too. Yet no sincere idea comes into my mind as to why could he contact me - except to fire my ass*hole full of bull***** ex country manager and make me the local CEO ...

As I have already (as of yesterday) started the preparations of my own project

i think your right that if there were a reconciliation the attachment would not be as before.
Can you clarify who or what the knigh tof cups means in the reading and also any timings?
