What should I look for in my chart that might give a clue to this?

You have Venus Aqurius, which would fall onto their 1st house and oppose their 7th House, which is a major attraction factor.

Also you have ASC on Sagg, great interplay between 7th house.

Leo on the 7th house cusp does make someone view relationships in a Leo fashion. It can make the Aquarius rising need to be with someone who drags those Leo qualities out in them. Interestingly, I read that people with Leo on the 7th house cusp most often want a partner who is willing to play the 'Leo' in the relationship, to reign over the partnership and do things like take care of the household and the bills. This allows the Aquarius rising to continue to be more Aquarian, and seem like the refined intellectual of the pair. For every couple it is different though. Any of the above scenarios I wrote could work. Or hey, maybe none do. It just depends on the individual.

But looking at your placements, you seem like the type a Leo 7th house cusp would be attracted to. Capricorn Sun and Mercury brings stability and responsibility, while the Moon in Taurus brings patience, logic and an earthy sensuality. Aquarius rising could definitely appreciate these qualities. You could really take care of them, and the more trivial parts of a relationship, while they wouldn't have to! Cappie suns are inclined to take a lot of responsibility in most everything they do....

Also, notice your Venus is in Aquarius. Perhaps some of the guys you got into relationships with that were SUPER intense had their ASC conjunct your Venus in synastry...? Just a far reaching guess though. But it would make sense. I'm trying to explain why you could feel such an intensity in the relationship in general. I think a synastry chart would be the best way to find out.

It seems like perhaps your ex could have been so attracted to you because his moon is in Cappie, and that is your sun sign. I have seen INTENSE relationships have this pattern: the man's moon sign is the woman's sun sign. This leads to definite attraction, in most cases! What he needed to feel nurtured, protected and appreciated in a relationship is who YOU are, so it's an instant match...

Yes, Mars in Cancer can be challenging especially depending on the position of the planet. I can see that placement for him being a possible cause of friction in your partnership. Do you think it was? IMO, it can make the person in the relationship who has it very possessive and emotionally volatile, depending on aspects... I have a slightly afflicted Mars in Cancer, I know... trust me. I')

Another thing that stands out as a possible problem area for a person who is in any relationship of any kind is having Mercury in Leo. My mother has this placement, and it has caused considerable hell for her in love, I'd think... it makes her thinking overly dramatic at times and ready to fly off the handle when something bothers her or doesn't make sense. It's much worse than Venus in Leo, I think! But that's just me.
