Its called cartomancy. Google it. U can do readings with playing cards. Only they have their own meanings. Its similar to tarot, but not. Idk how to explain it. IP: Logged |

hmm I have tried them. I don't own tarot cards because if my religious loved ones knew that I was into the occult they would kill me, so I just use playing cards. I did some readings for myself, some of them were accurate & some of them were just off because I'm just a beginner. But I think that they could work, I remember someone did readings with playing cards on here, the reading was accurate. IP: Logged |

Milly, tarot is not occult! It is messages from the universe. Waite's deck is profoundly enriched w medieval mysticism. Tarot wouldn't work without god. Unless one uses Crowley's deck of course which I would dread to even touch The occult is just some.... table turning, talking to ghosts... don't know what else. IP: Logged |

I know it isn't but my friends & family sadly think that it's 'evil', that's why I keep my love for tarot, astrology, numerology a secret. I love learning about all things spiritual but I don't tell anyone around me because they aren't really open minded. IP: Logged |

evil is imposing god knows what on other people in a despotic manner. once someone gets judgmental, it's no good. i don't mean to say anything derogatory about the people you love, though, so please don't take it that way. IP: Logged |

Don't feel bad. Ur not alone in that area. I have certain family members that r very involved in their church which I'm quite proud of them for, as my brother in law went to haiti with his church to help out but sadly I know they would view tarot as "work of the devil" so not many ppl know I have tarot cards. So I hide it from most ppl. And I believe in God, I have 3 bibles, but I don't think I'm going to hell bc I work with tarot. Sorry I don't buy that lol and tarot is NOT occult. Altho its viewed that way by closed minded ppl. *sigh* IP: Logged |

Playing cards were created for this purpose long ago. We only relatively recently began using them in games. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." In my culture, playing cards & gypsy playing cards are the preferred decks by readers. The spreads are much different, but a lot of the tarot meanings transfer over. I wish that my grandmother had taught me the gypsy spread. Im thinking of studying it in the future, but its a bit different learning from a reader vs a guide book.IP: Logged |

Andstuff, did they teach you? My dad has always been fearful of the cards, which is why grandma was not comfortable teaching me ): It stinks, she knew much about natural remedies & healing, all which is now lost. IP: Logged |

i was too small when i was watching them doing it. all i remember is there was a significator in the centre, a king or a queen. and cards around them, in triangles. also that my mother was upset at some point when she found out that we used her divination deck to play games. IP: Logged |

Tarot decks are playing cards. That's how the use of them began. Playing cards originated in China prior to the 1400's and didn't come to Europe until 1375. Tarot was a game invented in the early 1400's that was played throughout Europe. Our modern deck of playing cards are Tarot simplified; they are directly derived from the game of Tarot. Divination with Tarot cards did not begin until the 19th century. http://www.tarotpedia.com/wiki/Tarot_History ------------------ Truth & Integrity in all things.
