I was getting these cards in a spread on a meeting (personal, not professional).

Personally I see the 7 of cups as a very negative card, signifying delusion and disillusion, and I wonder does it negate the other cards in the spread, as they are pretty positive? Or makes the truth of the emotional connection (Ace of cups and 4 of wands) doubtful?

What were you wanting to know about the meeting?

I'm not sure what your experiences with the 7 of Cups has been but I don't see it as negative at all, just neutral. I think it's a card that says anything can happen. Perhaps you will find yourself locked in a little power struggle with this person, which may have been how your relationship was before. It's also possible this is a fresh start and a good chance to find some common ground between you two. The 7 of Cups to me says things have not been decided yet, the future is uncertain but the 4 of Wands looks bright. I'm not sure if you do elemental dignities or not but it may be weakened since you have water cards next to fire. It will be more of a feeling-oriented meeting than a bonding one, if that makes sense.

From personal experience, 7 of Cups is extremely negative. You're fantasizing instead of acting, which puts the actual meeting on hold. Sort of like a chance or offer is lost due to no actual action being taken. Stop thinking about it and just do it! Face your fears and reality.

But that's just how I see it .

You both make a lot of sense.

I need to make a choice and get clarity - for myself-, if I want this connection to continue. And yes you are right, I am doing a lot of overanalysing instead of actually acting. Also there have been a lot of indications in several different readings (including astrological ones) indicating that I am sort of at a crossroads and have to make some important decisions, even if just on the emotional sector.
But even these emotional decisions will decide the path I am going to pursue from now on.

I guess I will just lean back and see what happens, if something happens, and react to whatever is being thrown my way.

Right now I have the feeling that while meeting this guy the first time was very important and a signalpost in my life, it may simply be the whole purpose that was to this. And he fulfilled his purpose in my life.

You know sometimes people just come into your life once to give you a push into the right direction. Maybe that is what he is to my life, and there`s nothing more to it.

EDIT:
I think the underlying question was if that meeting or connection is going anywhere or if I am clinging to a moment that has already gone.

Yes Cerid, that's what the cards mean to me. There's little to no action being taken. You like the fantasy better than reality, or maybe you were expecting more from him? something like that..

7 of Cups interests me very much so I took great effort when I was searching for its meanings.

While the most decks are variation on the Rider-Waite,the meaning of illusion is a secondary one, almost forced. The first is about choices. The man depicted isn't being tricked,he is staring at the wonders.(yes, clouds could represnt the illusion, but more likely the distance, moment in future, natural surrounding for dreams) Indulgence of the possibilites gives the room for laziness, lack of action etc. To see this card as negative only is to suppose that action is constantly necessary, almost mandatory. Also, there is much in the meaning of the numbers too,7 has very spiritual connotations.
A card isn't inherently good or bad, unless you don't use reversed positions, then,I suppose each card must choose its side, which is rather naive, and therefore hardly applicable to life and people.

But if your tarot experinces tell you otherwise then you should stay by your intuition.

I think the 7 of Cups is a warning ...a warning to not go overboard, to be aware and keep your head, and that there are temptations and illusion if you go too far. I think it's saying to be more practical about the situation. Don't lose yourself.

I use Aleister Crowley's Thoth tarot deck and the name and imagery for the 7 of Cups is pretty obvious to me - it is called Debauch. The 7 cups in the image are full but overflowing, the water has turned putrid with slime. "External splendor and internal corruption". This card is also represented by Venus in Scorpio, if that helps to understand more. It can indicate addiction and intoxication, not limited to drugs or alcohol.

The danger of excess and obsession is very real.

Thank you all.

It helped me to understand the different possibilities of the 7 of cups.

Oh and donīt worry. No obsessing or deluding myself on my part, hopefully. Actually I am very aware of the limitations and "not possibles" in this situation.

At least I was having a really splendid night and enjoyed myself and the situation very much. Actually it was weirdly hilarious.

VdS,

this interpretation resonates very strongly with me.
