The best thing to do to start learning how to interpret synastry charts is first start looking at your own natal chart. Read your natal chart report and get a feel for the planets and luminaries. Don't worry about houses and nodes and all that yet. Just start with the basics like:

Your rising sign Capricorn (aka Ascendant): This is the you that the world sees upon first meeting you. Your ascendant colors your first impression of things.

Next, learn about your Sun sign Capricorn. This is your ego in a nutshell. You view and experience the world in Capricornian ways.

Next, learn about your Moon sign in Scorpio. Your Moon represents your emotional needs and how you like receiving love/emotions (in synastry). The Moon can also represent your mother and your relationship with her but don't worry about that for now. Just read up on Moon in Scorpio.

Next, learn about your Mercury in Sagittarius. Mercury is how you think and how you communicate. So the way you think and communicate has a Sagittarius flare to it.

Next, learn about your Venus in Scorpio. Venus is the way you give love, money, and beauty. So the way you give love, feel about money, and feel about beauty is colored by Scorpio.

Next, learn about your Mars in Pisces. Mars is your driving force, the way you act on things. So the way you act on things has a Piscean flare to it.

For now, don't even worry about aspects and the outer planets. Focusing in on the ones above is a great start.

Once you get a decent understanding on the planets and their keywords, you will begin to understand the relationships planets have with other planets (aspects). Then followed by "House play." Then you will start understanding synastry. I may also like to add that many people learn astrology by skipping the natal and learning about aspects in synastry with someone the like or love. There are no hard or fast rules on how to learn or what to learn though. :-)
