You can NOT be put inside a box, so, you need to engage in something that will allow you creative freedom and expression. You're also not really known to take the beaten path soooo again, you need to be able to spread your wings. The business with your mother and freelance work is just the tip of the iceberg for you b/c it'll open up new doors for you. You won't stop there though...

I had this same conversation with my sis today. If it's not what you love - why bother? I TOTALLY get having to provide for a family. I've a family of 6. HOWEVER, you have to look at it like this, you're at this job more than you're home. And if you don't like it, how is it going to affect other areas of your life? Sure, it's right for your family financially but, what about other areas?
