how querent feels/wants to feel about self: 9 of pentacles
environment: knight of wands
advice: 5 of swords
outcome: 10 of cups (with clarifying card ace of wands)

so... i mean, is all this telling me to just nut up and start acting like an adult? to let go of past hurts and resentments and self-esteem issues and just say, "tada. i'm here. get over it?" i have no idea what the 5 is saying, and as a result... I SHOULD NEVER READ MYSELF.

I'll give it a try for you. I always have the same reading for myself.

First cards actually make me ask the following questions: Is it not that you don't want love, but you want it to be a 'higher kind' of love only? Basically the soulmate level? How's your man image at the moment? Did you swear them of after some past hurts where guys basically just wanted you for your body. So mostly lust and then they took of?
For what you want: 9 pents, also shows me you are (and want) to be able to content yourself first. She often comes up as the contented single lady. In regards of a partner it showse friendship is also important in a relationship.

5 of swords is a difficult card always. In this case I would actually say: don't push yourself and respect all thoughts and feelings in regards to relationships. You don't have to if you don't want to right now.
Giving yourself that space will bring you to the ten of cups which in this case I would read in respect to your inner happiness.
As for the past hurts: I actually think they might just be fading away already (9wands rev-opening up more) and 6 swords in near future. Think the main issue you should look at (if you want a partner) is how you perceive men and what type would actually suit you. But as I look at the cards I can very well imagine you will just spend time on you and your development first.

Extremely helpful. Thank you very much. Yeah, I sort of called a truce on dating after the last blunder. I am trying to focus on getting my life together and my job priorities in line, but sometimes, I do think that I'd like to have a partner. You're absolutely right though. I'm tired of the hits-and-misses, and I'm ready for the big It. I do prefer to have a friend and partner first than a lover. Forever is a lot of work, and work requires trust that I think friendship gives in ways love just can't. Maybe that's naive, but c'est la vie! Interesting that you picked that up. I like it!

I think in your reading its saying not to dismiss every option, or offer, assess each one carefully.
