Most prefer midpoint-derived. The other is a Davison, and is read a bit differently.

Beth,

Indigo can also state his/her opinion, but I think equal house system should be used first. Once you start an initial read, if you feel like something is a little "off" or not quite all there, try switching to default house and see if anything changes/makes more sense. I tend to like using equal, but sometimes we vibe better with the default house system. Whole houses are often (always?) used in Vedic readings (whole house is the "ancient" or traditional way of reading charts), and I know some people like to use them in romantic readings, though it isn't as common.
