My question is: what's causing him to behave so differently?

My bf has recently moved in (January) and ever since then we seem to have had a bit of a torrent of bad luck. Financially speaking things have been a little tough, there have been health problems (ourselves as well as other family members,) a couple of his friendships have ended for reason various and his bosses have sent him on increasingly long drives for work which tires him out. For about 4 weeks now he's just not been himself. Quiet, quite withdrawn and not his usual self. He's still loving and affectionate but not as much as he normally is.

You might say that all of that is all the answer I need to my question, and if that's the case then that's great and I'll thank you for it! I think sometimes we look for things to overcomplicate life which is no doubt what I'm doing... however I just can't seem to shake the feeling there's something I'm not being told and it's driving me nuts! Hence asking for your help.

If you pick up on anything or if you just want to tell me to stop being an idiot I'd be so grateful. Thank you

So that seems to make sense with what you said about financial difficulties and losing friendships, etc. Maybe financial (or other kinds) of investments have fallen through, and all of the stress has become so overwhelming that he feels like he is losing control or has veered off course and is now stuck. This could leave him feeling angry and helpless, but if he sees it as a failure that might explain his being withdrawn or brooding internally instead of reaching out. Even if these are just temporary circumstances, he might have a hard time keeping things in perspective, and this could be getting to him on a pretty deep level, which is never good especially if those doubts start seeping into areas of his life they shouldn't be such as your relationship..

The reading you did for me was extremelly accurate and definitely helped put things in perspective!! I think you're right he is feeling defeated and it's more of an ego thing than genuinely wanting to re connect emotionally. Our relationship was really intense and hard to pull away from, so the high preistess makes sense because I feel like we have this connection that's impossible to shake and intuitevely we'll always understand each other, which was nice but now is just painful, and part of the problem is that we always sort of leaned on each other for security or as a way of avoiding dealing with our own issues, so this feels like exactly how history could continue repeating itself. But it's interesting you pulled 5 of cups, and that's actually extremely helpful because I know things ended for a reason and moving on was kind of a difficult process for a while so even if part of me really does miss him, going back to the past after coming so far wouldn't be wise for either of us.
