Hi,
So someone offered a help to me out of the blue, without me even requesting them. The more surprising thing was the person is not generally helpful/empathetic at other times. I wanted to know if the person did this to escape some other responsibility(there was a request for help at that time from someone else and the helper denied it). I drew the Queen of swords and then drew The Sun for clarification.

I'm completely new to tarot reading and according to what I know - Queen of Swords points to one who is very dominating/authoritative. In the context of my question, what would it mean in terms of motive? Chances are that the help that the person did was known to quite a number of people outside too. Making people see the 'help'??

Does the cards give me an affirmation about my thoughts in any way?

Hey Cathy,

What was your exact question? "What are person X her motives?"
That would be a better question to ask. Other one is not clear enough to get a clear answer. Open questions work best in tarot.
Queen of swords is actually very honest as a person and the sun is also a very good card. Your description is of a Queen Swords reversed.
So I would say she is truthfully helping you 'seeing the light' about something. A queen of swords in real life can sometimes come of as 'uncaring', because of her intellectual and 'matter of fact' approach. But she is helping because she thinks it is 'the right thing to do'. Because she works with her mind, empathy is often not that clear (not in her books that much), because she looks at most appropriate taken action.

Hi Twirl,
Sorry I missed to post my question It was "Did X lend me help just to escape another obligation?" The situation was that if X did not help me at that point, he will be answerable to Y who asked him a help, that he refused to. I became suspicious because he had not helped me when it was really very necessary sometimes previously. In spite of me telling I can manage it alone, he was persistent in giving the help. And some people around also know he has helped me, so I also became thoughtful if he's doing to earn some good name from them

And your explanation of Queen of Swords as "working with the mind and not very empathetic" is very much in line with the person's character even out of the context of the question.

So does these cards give an explanation of his character? Or should I interpret it as an answer to Yes/No question?

I would still read it as 'no'. He most likely thought that actions and his insight and knowledge were neccesary to help fuel this project forward. This id someone with a clear vision who can easily see what needs to be done to get the perceived outcome. So I'm guessing his input was actually quite helpful, no? Try not to look at him through the glasses of 'empathy'. This person doesn't think that way and will keep his emotions uninvolved when it concerns work needed to be done.
But yes-no questions are not the best to ask the tarot.
If you want to be certain, just ask again, 'what were x's motives to help me?' Especially queen swords might have very well come up for you (as the critical eye, seeing truth) in regards to your question.
And (for example): can I trust x's motives in this project.

Hi Twirl,
His efforts were really helpful. My concern was that he is not a consistent person in terms of help and wanted to be sure that his help to me should be out of good intention to me and not to escape someone/something else
I'm certainly happy to learn that he has been honest in his approach.

As you said, I modified the question to what was his motive to help me and I got King of Wands. I somehow feel this signifies something positive regarding his intentions. Am I right?

I had this thought too and on a worst case, it would come to me as "Yes, what u thought was right" to my original question

Yes. He is still looking out for the project and adds his inspiration to it. This is a king though and an ambitious one, so he probably also is (honestly!) enthusiastic about it , but also likes to have his name in on it. I doubt he only does it to avoid the other job and I would trust his vision. Just make sure he won't 'run away' (take over) your project.

Ok I understand that. So it is help with a good intention, but not without a motive

Thank you so much Twirl for explaining.

She wanted to tell you the truth.

Queen of Swords = Honest, even if it seems a bit too blunt. She will always tell you the truth no matter if it stings. It's just in her nature.

Sun = Truth, enlightenment, clarity

Her intentions are honest. She wanted to reveal the truth to you.

Hope that makes sense.
