well it's YTA so will do a reading anyway, as i love how much you really love your children, and live for them

I will tell you from now, he will spend a lot of time on his own in his first year, but don't panic, think about libraries and studying, as he will fight for what he really wants, (good grades to get the end result he is after) and this all ends up turning really well for him.

He's going to be one serious boy when he gets to the university, he is focused, no one can full him.....when it comes to communication he will impress everyone by how well versed he's going to be in almost any subject he takes up, and even on an 'emotional' level his teachers may be impressed by how he really is and not just looks mature for his age.
Given what you share here, i won't be surprised if while his friends are looking to be in a relationship, he'll just be extremly focused, polite to all but already knows why he is going to university (a higher education and great job)

all this will be based on him really just wanting to study....it really will be all about him and his books in that first year of university. but as i said don't worry as it'll turn out well for him. His strongest points during the first year, will be his way of communicating with others, and how he may know much mroe than what he is taught about quite a few things.

The kid is going to one of the top schools (we'll find out in two weeks) and he'll be pre-med. So there will be a whole lot of studying. He's already an unusually serious and diligent boy. On Sunday, he studied for four hours for no apparent reason because no exams are impending during the holiday season, and practiced his music for almost 11 hours (eleven hours!). He watches no TV and uses the internet only for e-mail. Relationships aren't on my mind at this stage of his life. Achievement is.

Wunjo and Ihwaz (joy and Yew tree)

Both these runes are telling your son to embrace the new path and he will be happy (it looks like he doesn't really want to leave home lol).

tell him that it is okay that if at first he feels homesick or anything, and be sure you have planted some really good morals in him already, that no matter what happens he is protected at the end of the day and to know this is his first step in knowing that the only constant thing in life is change itself.

given the question is about university, i honestly see the challenge with these two runes together as which fraternity to join...or even maybe not wanting to join one in the first place. he comes across as a real 'single minded' person so...
if he does join one would it really be because he wants to, not because he feels like he's being 'pushed into doing so' and he may not like the 'culture' of the one that approaches him at all.

at the end of the day remind him in life, the choice is always his, and he'll have to make the best of whatever comes his way. choice isn't only something it is also a right, so remind him to stand up for himself and not let anyone impose anything on him if he doesn't want it.
his friends may impose something on him like 'either this or that' and it'll upset him, but then again remind him no one can upset us without our consent.

on the other hand, the only other way i'd read this as a challenge, is his choice of university may not be one that is close, and he'll find the distance away from his family, as you are a tightly knit one, quite challenging to deal with at first.

again remind him everything in life has a season (even if he's away within a few month he'll be b ack for the holidays) so just to go with the flow of whatever point of time he has...and the last reminder is for him to remember that many of his choices in life have to be his own. if it comes to friends, real friends won't tell him do this or we won't speak to you...and if it comes to university, such they are all top choices tell him to go with his heart as to which one is best.

now finally black cat what to keep in mind all the time...Dagaz, daylight (why do i keep drawing this for others today lol)

tell him to keep in mind that whatever uni he got accepted to, then the 'tough times' are really behind him, and he has already ensured his bright future the moment he steps into the one which is his choice. this is his new day, and his new day in life has begun, but i also read this as telling him not forget to make time for the light in the skies aka as the lord, as he is from those whose prayers will get answered soon after they are made, and keeping God in his life, well ensure he always remembers what his end goal in all this is, and that he is never alone. Just remind him to say thank you in prayers every night when he is gone, and as all these stones seem to indicate, it'll keep him true to himself and origins, and feel happy as he progresses on the right path.
