Hi all,

I have started doing some readings using a 5 card spread (cross of truth) with mixed results. VERY much a newbie but I will try. I have noticed most of you pull 3 cards. So what spread? I hope someone can help. I do want to learn. poochycat.

3 Cards for the quick answer
Celtic Cross for deeper answers
12 Houses for general readings

I don't use any other spreads.

Do you just fan the cards after cutting then choose 3 cards? poochycat

I mostly use the Celtic Cross (or I did when I was learning) because the positions helped reinforce the card meanings for me. This was helpful, because each card can be so nuanced in its message.

I personally like a 5 card spread for quick questions, with the middle being the present as it's happening right now. Distant past, relevant past, present, near future, outcome. 3 cards are fine, but for me, I like a more verbose picture

That said, you can create your own layout if it feels right for you. The big thing is to make sure you are consistent.

Thanks guys,

I will probably ask more questions as I go along from the professionals like yourself as I get a bit better. Thanks again.

Absolutely not. I shuffle and pick from the top. Cards that fall out go off to the side and are read independently. Never understood the point of shuffling AND fanning, but I'm a computer person who thinks random is random and shuffling can't change random. :-)

I shuffle and then pick what stands out to me almost like saying this is the one.
If I don't quite understand what is being said I will choose a clarification card. Letting spirit guide me.

Poochycat,

But honestly Becca's way is the best. 5 cards
When you draw three you might not get all the facts
You don't want to answer the question and read it wrong for yourself or someone else.
And the celtic cross is the best to start with.

IMO

O.K. I've been doing five cards and feel comfortable with that. Thanks for your advice everybody.
