So, questions about how other people feel are always a little tricky, because the only link a reader has to them is through you. Sometimes, you act like a filter, and your emotions can change things. That being said:

9 of Wands + Hermit + 10 of Swords + 4 of Wands (r) + 6 of Swords

CW does understand his feelings. In fact, I think he understands them well, because he has a pattern of self-preservation that he engages anytime he feels threatened or like something might hurt him.

This is an even spread: two wands, two swords, and a Major card. This tells me that he's weighed the pros and cons of the situation, and he's decided that your relationship--whatever form it takes--is too risky, and he's already begun to move on mentally as well as emotionally. He's a very hurt individual (the 9 is sometimes the woe-is-me-card, but here with the 10, it shows that he's had a rough time in the past.) Was he previously married? The 4 of Wands (r) often shows up me for divorce. If that's the case, he took one hell of a hit, and it's gonna take a long time before he truly recovers.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. He's struggling to figure out who he is in the face of some kind of intense pain, and he just isn't ready/willing to take a real, meaningful risk on anyone or anything

Oh my god.. So you felt pain when you drew this card.. I think then.. that you're right if he's in pain, he's certainly not thinking about me right now. Any possible way you could draw verification on this (this breakup/ if he's okay)
