I believe you should always trust your intuition. I think this person was withdrawing because they felt like something was a dead end or were hurt by something. They thought it was better to rely upon more serious issues and tap into this area of their life more profoundly to find strength to move on. They just wanted to be alone and gather their energy after they realized it was time to move on.

Sorry for the minor delay. Was chatting with my mom I got king/pentacles - five/wands - king/swords This energy feels very decided to me. I think he definitely does but it feels like he may want things in his terms (for now anyways )
King of swords popping in again reiterates that he is who he is  take him or leave him is likely his attitude

I think they are feeling really like they are lacking when it comes to you. they feel pretty low in self worth but they are coping because they have a positive mind. they have also realized something may have finally ended between you two and this is what is making them feel low worth.
