I once worked with this girl who had found this really great guy. She was a single parent with three small children and he had no problem assuming the parental role as well.

Anyways, I asked her how she found him and what her past experiences were that led her there and this is what she said:

I met a lot of jerks while dating and then finally decided one day to just be direct with them. When I met R and the ones before him, I said, "What do you want from me?" He was upfront back to her. She married him and as far as I know they are doing well. The answers the other ones gave didn't make the cut. If someone is evasive in answering that question or has an answer you don't like, then you'll know at least what you'll be dealing with.

I guess when we don't have doubts any longer about a prospective partner, we also find ones that are more compatible and better for us.
