Hi everyone-
I totaled my car a couple weeks ago and the accident left me very anxious about everything car-related, particularly since I'm so accident-prone (though I've never been found to be at fault...I must be invisible LOL!). I'm having a difficult time choosing a replacement vehicle that's relatively fuel efficient and inexpensive. I want to stick with Toyota since I've had a great experience with them, but the recent media attention about Takata airbags & unintended acceleration is making me paranoid about post 2001 cars. I calculated that 1 in 3000 Yaris cars have acceleration complaints. Yikes! Most of these cars aren't great in side impact tests, so I'm even considering installing race seats w/a safety harness (no joke!). Anyway if someone could pull a card on whether cars in each of these 3 categories would work out well for me, I'd appreciate it immensely. Leave a question and I will respond later tonight (9-ish EST). Thanks!

* pre 2002 Toyota Corollas (this is my first choice because cheap/reliable, but difficult to find in relatively low mileage and not sold by gangsters)

* somewhat newer Toyotas/Scions (xB/xA/Yaris/Echo)

* Honda Fit (a little out of my price range but good in crash tests)

Hi threepoolsoflight,

I asked, "What should you expect from...?"

... Option #1: ROADS--TOWER--CROSS. Yikes! This car will take you on the road, but a state agency will reveal some problems about it. Or possibly you'll always be afraid that they might find a dreadful problem with it. Either way, not trusting your car isn't a good thing.

... Option #2: STARS--SUN--GARDEN--HEART. I think this is the car for you. It will make your (driving) dreams come true , you'll like to show it off to everyone, and most important, you'll love driving it.

... Option #3: COFFIN--CROSS--RIDER (clarifier for RIDER: WHIP) Bad all around! You'll HATE it and some authority in automotive safety will probably find some major problems with it.

I hope this helps. Don't worry about a reading for me--a little good-doing makes me feel good.
Cheers and good luck!

Thanks SoaringLeaves! Wow, I never would have thought the cars in option 2 could be more positive than the others. I'm definitely going to expand my car hunting in that direction though (and maybe avoid option #3 altogether, with that coffin-rider-whip combo :eek . If you ever want a reading in the future, just let me know!
