I think there are many possible births for your work. The birth of it would be the moment you start writing it. Then finishing it is another birth for it. I should say the moment you publish is indeed indicative of the impact on the world., so yes, from a career POV, it should be relevant.

But I would look at both. The moment you start writing it - very important - for that creative moment generates momentum and a chain of events. You can see there how the project may involve, just like a child's birth chart, including the official public chart (MC), the impact it would have. To me, this is the actual birth of your work.
The I would look at the publishing moment and focus on the "success" markers in there. It's more like going to the first ball here

The problem is that you can't remember even when you came up with the idea or when you really started writing because you usually write down ideas for long time. LOL! It's a very fuzzy process. Not even the moment when you finish writing is so clearly defined, because you keep editing, even if theoretically the story is done.

Which basically means that you have only one clear date: when the public/world sees it. So I think that it isn't completely wrong to imagine the writing like the development of a child in the womb, while the publishing represents the birth. Maybe incomplete though...

Hi Saille!

No one deleted your post on purpose!! This site has a bug: it seems that if two people post something in the exact same moment, one of the posts will be deleted. Sometimes, if you make a very long post, which takes a while to appear, then you cancel it before it's done, the site will still post it but it will delete all the other posts that were placed after it. This problem is even worse now that Mercury is retrograde.

You should post again because chances are nobody saw it the first time.

I didn't think of the name. Many times the name is chosen by the publisher months after the author finishes writing and it's very arbitrary. Plus if you asked me when I named my stories, I couldn't tell. I need to mull over this...
