So I was practicing with the cards I noticed that mostly when I ask about this guy, it seems as though he wants me to be safe or feel safe and comfortable.. I also had a reading last night that said the exact same thing.

But these cards are a bit scaring me.

I asked why does he care?

Key - Moon - Ring - Dog

The dog be coming up when I ask about him mostly.

Can anyone help with key and moon?

The key usually present itself as an 'unlocking success' card and moon is usually emotions to me.
The ring and dog suggests a committed friendship. He sees you as someone he cares about in a platonic way (at the very least). Dog can be a friendship card.

Putting it together, I would say that he cares because he has identified you as a friend (at the very least) that he wants to keep and care for.

Also.. I want to ask another question since you guys know Lenormand more.

If I ask about him and a "man" comes up in the reading, what does that mean? I thought Dog meant a friend or does it mean friendship?

The man card represents the quesited - the person being asked about. If the lady comes up in a reading, that's usually you.

If you're not asking about a HIM and the man comes up, then it's a man close to you.

It all depends on the wording of your question. The Dog can mean friend or friendship; but it really depends on the nature of the question. If you're asking about a HIM and the dog card comes up, I would say it's talking about the friendship or friendship feelings between you. Not that he sees you as a friend, unless you've been SPECIFIC.
