I feel the metaphor "butterfly" could mean that he will leave his current relationship, (8 cups), I'm still feeling this. The 2 wands is showing that he might even have the initial stages in action or he is seriously contemplating this. The king of cups is showing his compassion towards starting something positive , a progression. So like a cocoon emerging into a butterfly.
