Hello all,

Here goes...

So, several months ago, I had a noisy neighbor and her two children move above me. The first few weeks were BRUTAL. They bumped and made like elephants until 12 am which was when I finally got some sleep. I had been living in my unit for 6 years when after a few months of NO SLEEP and having to knock on her door a few times, I finally decided to leave. I put in my 60 days notice and began looking for a new place to live. Granted, the neighborhood had changed, and every time someone new moved into the building, a bike got stolen, packages stolen, or a new homeless person was found living in the basement and/or the storage units. I had just about had enough and wanted out. It took a few weeks to find something new, and when I did, it was a tough choice, because I had to choose between two nice potentials. The first one, was homely, very nice, and in a decent neighborhood, but the reviews were terrible. The second, was a new building, with a rent special, beautiful units, and much closer to my place of work.

After much deliberation, I went with the latter.

Since then, I've had a decent time living there thus far, but I am beginning to have second thoughts. The dishwasher does not work. for about 2 weeks now, its been a passive-aggressive back and forth exchange with me and the management to get it fixed. I am constantly asking them "did you guys take a look at the appliances before I moved in?" and all I keep getting is, "This is a new building, it was probably damaged during the move, things like this happen all the time". So.....NOW after a few weeks, they have to order new parts for it and I am stuck washing a butt load of dishes myself from the move. I can manage, but it's one of the amenities I am paying for, WHY didn't they have this fixed before I moved in???

Second, the residents are already complaining about other residents being rude, and things breaking. I literally feel duped and even scammed into purchasing a place there. It's a beautiful place, but I don't feel at ease there. It's NOT a good sign.

I want to move. But I feel like it would be a cowardly move on my part because I'm not giving it a chance. I feel bummed out because I was hoping for a fresh positive start from living where I was before. It's like I went from one extreme to another. NOT what I wanted to happen. I am trying not to be a tirade of a ***** to management, but I really feel like leaving or telling them I want to change units. I am not sure what to do. My family loves my new home, and I don't want to let them down.

What should I do???

Thanks guys <3

Don't you have strata or a body corporate.

Years ago I moved into a place with its own washing machine. It was in another language and not straight forward to use. I called my real estate to ask them for a user's manual. They said I would have one in 6 to 8 weeks!! So I flooded my unit LOL. Called them back and told them my unit was flooded so they have to by law, get the plumber out which the landlord had to pay for. Then the real estate was accountable for it. I told them if I had a manual my place wouldn't be flooded and I wouldn't need a plumber to attend.

5 mins later they told me to knock on the door of a long time resident and she gave me a copy of the manual. 8 weeks turned to 5 minutes as they had a client to look after, which is the landlord, NOT me.

It always boils down to money. I too had noisy neighbours move in after 8 years of peace, but after constant complaining they terminated the lease agreement and were gone in 6 months.

I wasn't keen on my place when I moved in 8 years ago, but I learned to love it within about 2 months.

I think you need to just change the way you think give it some time... and maybe flood your unit and blame it on the dishwasher

Just re read and saw you bought your new place!!

So maybe don't flood your unit...

They generally make new apartment blocks quickly and everything in them breaks quickly.

I'd still give it time. Sometimes the only things you can change is how you see/feel about things.

Depending on what state you are in, you do not have to pay the rent until the item is fixed. call your town/city hall.

Same here for renters.. you can pay less rent until it's fixed.. but I'm confused if you bought or rent as you mention both?

***Update*** I went to the management office yesterday after work and asked again how long it take and they said about a week. The guy seemed a bit condescending, but I kept my wits.***

I'm trying to look at it from their pov and understand things will and can go wrong with a new apartment building and the fundamentals that come with it.

***UPDATE***

The situation has gotten worse. Apparently, there are people in the building who like smoking weed and cooking garlic in the middle of the night. I've complained to the management 3 times now especially because of the weed smell that so strong it's potent, have said they cannot do anything unless they catch the person who's smoking it. I've been cranky, irritable and snappy at work in the past few days because I don't get sleep. The tenants are rude, and they're tearing everything up in the lounge area, and a whole slew of things. I told the building manager I'm done and I want out out of my lease.

I am so stressed and riddled with anxiety its crazy.
