I turn 30 next week and have come to the realization that I have no real skills or talents and am by all objective metrics, a loser. I wasn't able to attend school and I've been stuck perpetually working as a barista for 15 years now as no other places will hire me (still can't do latte art even, lol). I could be able to cope with this if I had some other venture or hobby to contribute to the world at large, but I don't. Everything I've attempted I've sucked at or plateaued into mediocrity or just became bored with. I've tried everything from photography, guitar, saxophone, graphic design, mushroom farming, electronics refurbishing, herbalism etc. and I have nothing to show for it but wasted time, a lighter wallet and disappointment. Is there anything in my chart that can at the very least point me in the direction of where I should focus to find SOMETHING I'm good at? Or am I just destined to be another NPC not here to produce, only consume? I just want to focus on a general hobby for now, but if anyone has any pointers as far as career goes that would be cool as well. Thank you for your time and letting me vent for a second, I appreciate any counsel you can give. Cheers! chart: http://imgur.com/Pao7LgL

You're still young, and seems to me you have professionally tried more stuff that most of the people, so I wouldn't be so hard on myself if I were you!Did you consider the possibility of going back to school? Even night school if you're still working a daytime job. Usually career opportunities pop up after graduating. Maybe a career in counseling or therapy? Looking at MC trine Chiron, and Mercury in Libra in the 6th. Even religious or political aspirations, since they have opportunities to rise up within an organization independently, because being stuck at the same job doesn't seem fulfilling for you. To clarify that list was attempted hobbies, I havent done any of those in a professional capacity. As much as I would love to I don't think going back to school is in the cards for me. I have no idea what I would go in for in the first place and the job market is in dire straits right now. Most of my coworkers workers are college grads and are slinging coffee right next to me, only theyre in a lifetimes worth of debt. The risk/reward ratio doesn't seem very favorable these days and I don't think I can afford it alongside paying my bills and raising kids. Therapy/counseling seems like an odd direction for me. I'm pretty socially stunted and have a difficult time talking to people. Maybe depending on the specific niche? Idk I'm not opposed but I don't really see myself being very good at something like that. Also thats what my brother does and I don't want look like a copycat lol. Also not a fan of organized religion or politics but I do have an earnest interest in esoterica and the paranormal. Not really sure how I can turn that into a career path without being a grifter though. That said thanks for the response, it definitely gives me something to chew on for a minute. IP: Logged |

You're very much welcome. Yes I wouldn't recommend going to school or grad school if you don't have a passion for it, but at the same time I know people who went through that and hated the experience but ended up landing with high-paying jobs. For instance I know someone who got a master's in nursing anesthesia and he was making 700K a year two years ago. He absolutely hated school and the fact that he had to move to a small town in midwest (still close enough to a big city), but he was okay for the most part because of the money. If you think you'd like doing therapy work, I'm sure if you end up being successful nobody would think of you as a copycat! And nobody knows if they're good at something unless they try. They say the key to success is to start before you're ready. But I know counseling involves a lot of studying and also paperwork that one needs to stick with for a few years. I know it's different for everybody but I followed my passion and it is the same major as three of my cousins (which makes sense because my MC ruler is Venus in Cancer), and I was never called that, and honestly never cared if anyone did to my face or behind my back haha! My sister was clueless in high school as to what to do, I picked a major for her based on her personality; she likes socializing (Libra moon) and is bossy (capricorn rising) and she's completing grad school (sag sun and MC) in entrepreneurship now. But I totally agree that the job market is very competitive right now when you're right out of school. IP: Logged |
