I have my own rituals with this celebration. Leaving food for the animals, connecting with nature a little more than I usually would. What kinds of things do you guys do on the solstices? **Joga**IP: Logged |

We have a big circle where we light the Yule log, which symbolizes the light that will carry us all winter. We offer prayers, we chant, the Lady of the North walks the circle collecting items that we would like blessed (items of jewelry are the most common). It is a very beautiful and sacred ceremony. We try to do it outside, so that the snow covered mountains surround us. We take turns writing the script for the ceremony and we assigned members to play certain characters. After chanting and dancing and the blessing, the circle breaks up and we celebrate with food and merriment. Everyone partakes of the scared bread that one of our members has baked....symbolizes the breaking of the bread and the sharing of love for one another. Any remaining bread is left for the Goddesses creatures. The Yule log is to remain lit for as long as possible and all the people in our group are to light a candle from the log to take home. We usually use jar candles....and this candle is to stay lit until the Spring. It symbolizes the light that we will need for the hard winter. I usually light a new candle from the old one right before it goes out and continue in such a fashion until Spring. ------------------ Hugs,LTD ~~The struggle keeps us young~~Daring to make mistakes and knowing there are none.~~DGM IP: Logged |

that is a cool thing La Tee Da!! thinking about it, i suppose i actually do like a ritual every year...in the fall, when the leaves begin to turn, i enjoy the smells in the air...getting pumpkins for my porch..and just watching nature change her clothes...it is the most amazing and beautiful thing...some of my fondest childhood memories are during fall/winter, spent with my grandmother Baker..i loved/love her so much and miss her greatly....her spirit lives in my soul and she truly emerges during the fall/winter season. Every year at this time, I drive by her house and park in the church lot across the street...I roll the windows down and close my eyes and I listen..I listen for the voices from childhood whispering through the crisp fall wind...it's beautiful...and i wish i'd named my daughters Autumn and Winter...i love those 2 words... My little sister's name is Autumn, Bernsie, but I think you know that!Last Solstice I made special dumplings stuffed with chicken, potatoes, cheese, and red and orange peppers to symbolize the sun. They were WONDERFUL! This year I couldn't wait for Yule to come around so I made them for Mabon. now I have to come up with something to do for Yule because I am not making dumplings more than twice a year!! It takes my kitchen days to recover!

I tried celebrating the Sabbats, but I got too lazy and forgot. Typically I celebrate Samhain and Yule!-StarLover IP: Logged |

My solstice celebration is almost a year around one. I start seeds in my greenhouse on my b~day, Imbolc; then by summer solstice, I have some seeds for my feathered friends as well as seedlings to put out in the gardens. By winter solstice, I have oodles of seeds & then make suet cakes for the birds & tiny 4-leggeds. A nice hard-pack molasses/mineral cake for the llamas & veggie bones for dogs & cats. All the indian corn grown goes to the chickens and a fresh bale of hay to the deer.... Solstices are a family affair here on the farm as a honor to nature and all her bounty. juniperb IP: Logged |

LaTeeDa..she truly was a special person... ------------------ When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won.
