Yay, this is such a fun time of the year.
We have 30 days to celebrate!
So does anyone have any stories or fun things they'd like to share?

-My favorite thing about Halloween is all the TV specials they air! Like on the Discovery Channel they'll have some show about haunted houses or anything thats beyond!

My favorite time of year!! Don't know what I'll be doing yet, though. I should start planning it.

as it gets closer I get more and more excited. It's such a great time of year. I do miss the chilliness and changed leaves of the NorthEast but Los Angeles is nice because it doesn't get TOO cold.

I think this year on the 27th I'm going to an open public ritual at a little pagan shop in North Hollywood. They have a really nice back yard where they hold their rituals. On Beltaine when Kian and I went there were at least 100 people. Everyone brings a little food, too, and then there's a big pot luck feast after the ritual!

When I was working with a coven in NY we did some meditation on Samhain once. It was intense but very beautiful. Our High Priest and High Priestess were very experienced and they brought us over. My aunt had died a couple years before suddenly and unexpectedly. I saw her there, dancing around a bonfire in a pair of cut-off jeans and she was so happy. It brought me a lot of peace.

Just thought I'd share that!! I'll be honoring her this Samhain!!

Here's a great link about Samhain: http://www.witchvox.com/holidays/samhain/1031_quikhistory.html

Great site for pumpkin carving! They give tips about carving, tools, picking a pumpkin, how to keep it fresh, etc.

Hi All

Samhain is one of the ancient Fire Festivals of Celtic origin. Isaac Bonewits has written several articles and has revised them. Here is the link - - -

And of course, Mike Nichols' online Sabbats and his write up of All Hallow's Eve.

Thank you Donna!

Now that it's getting closer I'm getting more excited! And I believe tonight is a full moon? I'm feeling very in touch with the atmosphere.

Hi Amber,

Yes, tonight, well, actually, this early AM at 03:20 hours EDT is the Full Moon in Taurus. Don't you just feel grounded and all earthy? I felt such a pull towards all the Fall flowers and foliage today. Must be that Full Moon!! (edited to correct myself, I didn't have my bifocals on when I looked at the calendar, it was a Full Moon in Aries )

You're welcome, I love those sites, the information is well written and Samhain is my most favorite Sabbat, along with Yule.

Samhain is my favorite, too!

Yes I'm definately feeling a pull. It's very interesting. I get tingles starting at the top of my head and then radiating in waves down my body, giving my goosebumps. It's interesting!

I do so love the full moon anytime but during this season it really affects me.

I am really looking forward to the ritual this year, I am hoping hoping to get a sitter so I can go.

I really want to be OUTSIDE this year... Amber if we both go mebbe we should go to the beach again afterwards.... or Griffith Park if we can get in.

Griffith Park would be GREAT! I wonder if that's allowed? I'm going to ask Regan where the druids took me for Beltaine. I really want to take you there. Crossing the stream there was a magickal experience!

*hope this doesn't offend anyone*

How to stay SAFE on Halloween:

1. When it appears that you have killed the monster, NEVER check to see if it's really dead.

2. Never read a book of demon summoning aloud, even as a joke.

3. Do not search the basement and/or the attic, especially if the power has gone out.

4. If your children speak to you in Latin or any other language which they should not know, shoot them immediately. It will save you a lot of grief in the long run. However, it will probably take several rounds to kill them, so be prepared. This also applies to kids who speak with somebody else's voice.

5. When you have the benefit of numbers, NEVER pair off and go alone.

6. As a general rule, don't solve puzzles that open portals to Hell.

7. Never stand in, on, or above a grave, tomb, or crypt. This would apply to any other house of the dead as well.

8. If you're searching for something which caused a loud noise and find out that it's just the cat, GET THE HELL OUT OF THE HOUSE!

9. If appliances start operating by themselves, do not check for short circuits; just get out of the house.

10. Do not take ANYTHING from the dead.

11. If you find a town which looks deserted, there's probably a good reason for it. Don't stop and look around.

12. Don't fool with recombinant DNA technology unless you're sure you know what you're doing.

13. If you're running from the monster, expect to trip or fall down at least twice ... more if you are female. Also note that, despite the fact that you are running and the monster is merely shambling along, it's still moving fast enough to catch up with you.

14. If your companions suddenly begin to exhibit uncharacteristic behavior such as hissing, fascination for blood, glowing eyes, increasing hairiness, and so on, kill them immediately.

15. Stay away from certain geographical locations, some of which are listed here: Amityville, Elm Street, Transylvania, Nilbog (you're in trouble if you recognize this one), anywhere in Texas where chainsaws are sold, Bermuda Triangle, or any small town in Maine.

16. If your car runs out of gas at night on a lonely road, do not go to the nearby deserted-looking house to phone for help.If you think that it is strange you ran out of gas because you thought you had most of a tank, shoot yourself instead. You are going to die anyway, and most likely be eaten.

17. Beware of strangers bearing tools. For example: chainsaws, staple guns, hedge trimmers, electric carving knives, combines, lawnmowers, butane torches, soldering irons, band saws, or any devices made from deceased companions.

18. If you find that your house is built upon a cemetery, now is the time to move in with the in-laws. This also applies to houses that had previous inhabitants who went mad or committed suicide or died in some horrible fashion, or had inhabitants who performed satanic practices.

19. Dress appropriately. When investigating a noise downstairs in an old house, women should not wear a flimsy negligee. Always carry a flashlight, not a candle.

20. Do not mention the names of demons around open flames, as these can flare suddenly. Be especially careful of fireplaces in this regard.

21. Do not go looking for witches in the Maryland countryside.
